Dinner for Two and Then Some

Others may want to take a study in “how to be a good neighbor” from the residents of this block. Sharing a trade reference is one thing, but sharing kitchens and even whole homes whilst undergoing remodeling is truly neighborly! And, so, this family’s ambition was to stay put in their close-knit neighborhood and ready their kitchen for the next generation.

While the original floor plan with attached three-season porch allowed the owners to enjoy barbecuing, gardening, and visiting, it did very little to counteract the dimly lit kitchen with dull oak finishes and cramped work space. The first order of business was to move the range further from the sink to eliminate interference between cook and dishwasher. Next, by centering the dining room opening, much needed natural light is filtered into the kitchen. A new peninsula for prep space with cozy perch provides two very distinct and roomy work stations. Couple this with bright finishes, a pop of color, and layered lighting, this family-centric kitchen is ready for its second act.
