Before the client purchased this home in Boston's Savin Hill neighborhood, she called Dane Austin for input. Both agreed that the space's spectacular architectural details – such as its moldings, original doors, and rose ceiling medallions – were worth the investment and those features became a driving force in the design direction.

The client requested a pretty space where she could host dinners, tea parties, and game nights frequently. To meet that goal, stunning, subtly metallic wallpaper was selected for the dining room, where an unusual hexagonal table was sourced and set to complement the room's large bay window. Since the dining room serves as the physical center – and the heart – of this home, this style was used to further set the elegant tone.

Throughout the space, antique and custom furnishings were carefully selected to lend a dreamy, romantic vibe that also makes the space feel much grander. An 1850s trumeau mirror hangs in the entry; antique French side tables flank a custom-made sofa in the alluring living room, where a pair of antique ginger jars now serve as table lamps. Elsewhere, elegant Italian sconces and chandeliers lend a touch of glamour to the airy interior.

The outcome offers just the right amount of formality for the client, who wanted her home to feel “proper,” yet also brings a sense of refined modernity that is at once comfortable, polished, and completely livable.
