What does Comfort Food mean to YOU?

In general, nowadays, it seems people call nutritionally indefensible foods, especially full of starch and grease, "comfort food", but do those really comfort you? Many years ago, I read that fats bind to stress hormones and carry them out of your body. Or something like that. I don't know if it's true, but at budget planning work lunch meetings back then, I noticed a great deal more butter was going on my bread than usual. 😁 I had an exhausting day yesterday, but normal meals today, framing a big nap, until a semi-late nosh: A Western Bagel onion bagel with Pace salsa and Deli American, which hit the spot in all kinds of soothing ways. All boughten mass produced, and as gooey as it gets. Not too much fat, but plenty salt and starch. And it hit the whole childhood comfort thing square on.

But ... I like Mac & Cheese, but only homemade (there are portions in the freezer in ready to zap dishes) with good ingredients, and it's not comfort food to me, though, as it ought to be. It's gooey, tangy, fat and starch. Made me wonder what you all actually get comfort from. Even if it's asparagus.

What's comfort food for you?
