Comments (37)Thanks for the welcome back... I didn't realize I had a style of writing...LOL but some folks that I have met face to face said I write just like I talk... so I don't really know.. I guess so... When I first discovered GW I used to post mostly at the garden forums, and then someone, can't recall who anymore,.... suggested I join them at the Kitchen table forum and occasionally in the a few other forums. I posted for quite awhile then when it went "by paid membership, it seemed that a lot of the snarkier folks also stayed at the KT and just wanted to stir up strife... so I made a conscious decision to just leave and only post at some of the garden forums and cooking forums from time to time.. There were a few other spin offs that I posted at for awhile, but it just seemed that they kept on breaking off until I just didn't recognize many of the people.. and it was difficult to keep up with many of the friends I had made as they all seemed to go in different directions from one another.. so I just quit posting on the boards entirely for a number of years... My life has taken a lot of interesting twists and turns and I have met a lot of really great folks on some of the boards, that I have had the pleasure of meeting face to face... So, I decided to come and lurk at GW for awhile... which I did, and then some of the posts were irresistable, so I rejoined and here I am. I have more time on my hands now that my Bob is no longer able to travel like we once did... and so between church and doctor visits, we pretty much stay at home.. I love to spend time walking along these country roads just praising God and thanking Him for all that my eyes drink in while on those walks...and since I love to cook... what better place to lurk and post but food forums.. eh?? lol There is a lot of wonderful information inside of folks heads that is totally worth sharing and listening to... some folks may not think anything about the way they prepare something, but to someone else, it may be new and innovative...I don't think we are ever too old or experienced to learn something from someone else... Comments (21)I looooooooove the clovey bits, they're the best part. I've also used apple juice on a ham when I didn't have pineapple, and it was good. Our hams come with the skin still on. If yours does, cut around the shank and carefully peel off the skin (so the skin is still on the shank end), leaving the fat intact, then score the fat (not all the way through) in a criss-cross pattern....See MoreFloof! Comments (55)Favorite sandwich? Hm-m-m-m-m-m. . . . . . Tough question. If I'm making it at home, probably liverwurst (or Braunschweiger) with a very thin slice of onion on buttered German pumpernickel. Not the soft, Americanized pumpernickel, but the solid kind, that comes from Germany. Or Limburger, also with a thin slice of onion, also on the same kind of pumpernickel, buttered. Or maybe a grilled cheese, with a slice of colby and a slice of Monterey Jack and a very thin slice of deli ham. Occasionally a thin slice of sweet onion, too. Actually, any kind of cheese is good on a grilled sandwich, EXCEPT Velveeta, or American cheese. I never buy either. Nor do I ever buy white bread. My current favorite bread is from Walmart's bakery dept, "12 Grain and Seed Sandwich Bread". I love that stuff! Even occasionally eat just a bread and butter sandwich, as long as I have a GOOD (Kerrygold) butter on hand. If I eat a sandwich out, I guess a good Reuben is my first choice. I would also like a good egg salad sandwich, if anyone around here offered them. One grocery store deli here has a turkey salad sandwich that has cranberries and walnuts, served on their own 10 grain bread. I like it a lot, too. There really aren't many options to choose from, sandwich wise, around here. Rusty...See MoreThe Ultimate Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich
Comments (51)I can't remember just when, but I'm thinking the late 1990's, there was a confluence, here, of new attitudes about appropriate business entertaining behavior. Out went alcohol, altogether, during the day, out went exclusionary, sexist venues including strip clubs, steam rooms, etc., in came fine hotels trying to monetize their lobbies and patios, and restauants trying to drive between services traffic which wouldn’t interfere with the kitchen, and combined, these produced a big popularity of Afternoon Tea right out of Beatrix Potter. Okay, that's a joke, but ”Tea” as a meeting time, eating time, etc., here, at least outside of British enclaves, was entirely dolly tea party or teddy bear picnic, the ”tea” was water or lemonade (squash, I believe in UK terms), cola was the coffee, and quite likely the dishes had Peter and his sisters painted on them, and perhaps the Tailor of Gloucester. I think it has faded, and covid would have killed off most of the stalwarts, but my guess is that this is where a lot of American ideas of English Tea come from....See More- 3 days agolast modified: 3 days agohobbitmom thanked carolb_w_fl_coastal_9/10
