my lunch boxes have 5 items - fruit, vegies, crackers/cheese, treat and sandwich or equivalent. I do as much the night before as possible eg cut the vegies (usually cucumber and carrot but one child loves raw green beans) when I am doing the dinner salad. a few years ago I wrote down each lunch box contents for a fortnight. now I just have a revolving 2week menu. it also allows me to give a treat such as chips/crisps once each fortnight without feeling guilty about it from a health point of view. with 4 children close together in age this has worked well for me. btw if they don't eat their fruit or vegies, they don't get their treat the next day

More than 20 years ago now but it still gives me the jeebies recalling the night before school making lunches. I used to make to order, as my 3 kids had 3 different issues with foods. One was fussy ( She's now vegetarian), one was I reckon OCD (no longer. must have been a faze) and one who just annoyed me for the fun of it with his perpetual change of likes, I think! Mostly good old healthy eating as I am a greenie at heart. Mostly wholemeal bread sandwiches, usually salad inside or the 'order of the day', juice box (years later we know that too much juice is just as bad as eating too much sugar....oh well, the 90's what can I say?) sultanas in the mini packs, crackers and cheese and dip (so 90's again!) sometime a special sweet treat but not often, and a note. I often put a note in the kid's lunch boxes as a surprise. Especially if they were feeling down or having a tough time. Now they are adults they remember those times and I am so happy my gut feeling of doing the right thing paid off.
