Did you watch the Oscars?

I like to watch the Oscars. In recent years past though, they have been too political, too predictable not funny, and just rather stupid. This time was way different for me anyway.

Conan O'brien was absolutely hilarious, and had me laughing...hard! Haven't done that in a long time. It felt great.

Politics didn't rule the night. That was refreshing to say the least.

There were a number of movies that look pretty good, and that I would actually like to see. This is new too. In the last 5 years or so, none have remotely sounded good to me, (and they probably weren't either.)

The gowns. They were actually pretty and flattering, and not the ridiculous absurdities of recent memory. (best forgotten.)

The tone of the night. It lacked the usual haughty and smugness. It was respectful, appreciative, and very supportive of the industry. They have even added an award for casting. I certainly won't argue with that.

The memorials. Rob and Michelle Reiner, by Billy Crystal...sob.

Diane Keaton...sob.

Robert Redford being remembered by Barbra Streisand was rough. Had me crying...hard. She even sang a few lines of The way we were....sob.

So, laughing and crying! Quite a night!
