Watch the Oscars! And 5 More Things to Do at Home This Weekend
Find happy diversions in a sit-down breakfast, flowers, movies and Dr. Seuss
It’s time to flip the calendar page. Why not start the new month on a positive note with a proper sit-down breakfast, a flower show and freshened-up sweaters? We have six cheery weekend ideas for you straight ahead, including dishing up a plate of green eggs and ham for Dr. Seuss’ birthday (March 2) and throwing a party for the Academy Awards (March 4).
2. Make breakfast a special occasion. Dust off the juicer for freshly squeezed orange juice, put flowers and cloth napkins on the breakfast table, and set out some special breakfast treats.
And it doesn’t have to be as elaborate as pancakes or omelets — granola with fruit and yogurt or oatmeal with toppings works too. The important part is making time to sit down and savor a morning meal.

3. Put a flower show on the calendar. Nothing beats the winter blues like going to a flower or garden show, and there are many across the country this month and next. A few coming up include the Philadelphia Flower Show (March 3 to 11), Boston Flower & Garden Show (March 14 to 18) and San Francisco Flower & Garden Show (April 4 to 8). Check locally to find out if there is a flower or garden show happening near you.

4. Give your sweaters some TLC. Now that you’ve repeatedly reached for your favorite sweaters the past few months, they deserve a little extra care. Check for and repair holes, use a sweater comb to gently remove pills and then hand-wash or dry-clean as needed.

5. Celebrate the gift of reading on Dr. Seuss Day. Theodor Seuss Geisel’s birthday on March 2 is celebrated in schools, libraries and community centers across the country as part of National Read Across America Day. Get in the spirit by rereading your favorite Dr. Seuss book, attending a local Dr. Seuss Day event or (if you’re feeling really inspired) making green eggs and ham for breakfast.
