Canned meat problem
Comments (8)We ate the backstraps/loins off this deer. Steaks buttlerflyed, grilled on the rare side of medium rare all at once, then frozen and reheated in the microwave to medium doneness. No noticeable side effects from eating the steaks. This was the third deer I "processed" this season, from the field to the freezer. I am very careful with my meat, which is why I do it all myself. Wild game overcooks and dries out quickly, most peolple eat it too well done, which is why they don't like it. I've changed more than one naysayers mind after they eat off my grill. I typically cut most of my venison into steaks and eat them cooked medium rare. I was actually worried about overcooking in the canner, since I cooked to what I consider done before putting it into the jars. Which is why I did half raw pack, that I'm now scared to eat. Weight was 10lb, guage read 11lbs for the majority. All the seals are still good. I love eating wild game meat, and canned meat sounded like the perfect solution for my needs, which is why I'm so heartbroke....See MoreHave you ever had Ramman Noodles?
Comments (40)Toss the flavor packets and make your own broth. Discard the water used to cook the noodles and add the broth to the cooked noodles separately (will help keep the broth clear). I used to splurge on fresh noodles from a local Asian grocery store but have not been for a while. Noodle connoisseurs/snobs might say there is a big difference in types of ramen, just as there is a huge difference between fresh ravioli and the stuff that comes in a can :-) Try real ramen if you get a chance. Comments (19)The first grade answer is water, fats, get trapped in cell walls, meat fibers...cold/frozen foods. Quick heat and steam trapped under pressure with nowhere to go, boom. Only one egg exploded and i knew why immediately, just wasn't thinking...then hid expecting the second one to blow, haha. Rarely use the microwave. Re-heat tea, maybe a soup or sauce. Always in short increments. Defrost setting when that applies... I don't like day old HB eggs. Ice box cold. 5am in a rush. I wanted a less ice cold quick egg salad. Salt, pepper, dill, Sriracha, tbsp plain yogurt. I like it warm....See Morewhat are your favorite meat free dishes?
Comments (30)That's a joke right? : ) There is the obvious health benefits eating whole fresh foods starting with the garden and the produce section. My local market is big on vegetables....very minor frozen processed food in the way back and just a couple rows. Not like the usual grocery where the entire middle, half the store, is processed frozen. I've got hundreds of pics of meatless meals. I fill my parents freezer with soup kits and a mixed sprouted bean/grain/seed/nut burgers. More a slider and next batch I'll make some smaller 'meat'ball size for soups and pasta dishes. 3 storms in 10 days I prepped/re-stocked some spice mixes and cracker and grain burger mixes. We have had them three times in two weeks and another crustless veg pot pie three times. (twice with seafood) Dad just turned 90 and Mom 89. Dad is still swimming every day and Mom does her yoga classes twice a week. They love these things. She is hiding them in the freezer since they run out so fast. My Mothers six siblings have all passed and my Fathers younger brother is very ill. His sister passed years ago. Most from type 2 diabetics and years very overweight. I'm not one to blame diet on illness though quality of life is important. Way too many hereditary and environmental factors at play. We are total carnivores, and pescavores, and vegavores. Just happen to prefer quality meats and small quantities being cheap. Veg burgers, sliders, again tonight over beet and collard greens in the steam oven. Last night with a meaty salad....See More- 7 months agolast modified: 7 months ago
