Power outage nightmare!
Comments (59)Stress: My husband uses Sta-bl in the lawn tractor, mowers and his chain saws and I think he adds something to the gas tank when he pulls the battery out of his steel mistress and puts it up on blocks for the winter, but the generators are kept ready for use year round and run up monthly, so I don't know if he uses it in them or not. But now I'm curious, so will have to ask. My father-in-law took the engine put of an old Case and used it as a generator. It was an amazing Rube Goldberg sort of contraption and made enough noise to wake the dead and had to be started with a hand crank, but produced enough electric power to run a 40 stall milking parlor, with enough left over to operate the lights and the cooler. It ran whenever he needed it for over 50 years. The cows were smart enough to get used to the racket and it didn't bother them but the hens stopped laying for days after every power outage. My mother-in-law used to say that it took a power outtage for her to get the makings for chicken soup. LOL!...See MoreYou were supposed to leave your weather up there!
Comments (38)Storm of the century for our area. We broke every record on the books. My burb endedn up with 21 inches of snow. 15-20 through out the metro and NEOK up into MO. Our schools were closed all week here. They haven't made a call for tomorrow yet. They don't plow the neighborhood streets down here and they are terrible. They did/are using the fire trucks and other city trucks to drive through and knock down drifts and compact the snow so people can get out. Went to the store yesterday and there was lots of empty shelves. No eggs at all and most dairy was gone too. They did just get a truck of milk in earlier before I got there. Fresh produce was hit and miss. No salad and some fruits were unavailable the bread isle was completely empty. Sally, I know you in Dallas have had your fair share too. I know it really has messed up SB week....so much lost revenue and some fans having a hard time just getting there. I saw the mess in HOuston too May. The rolling blackouts are crazy and kind of scary too when you think about it....not enough power sources to keep things going. Cathy, the lake area got slammed too. There are many docks both commercial and private that collapsed or sunk do to the weight of the snow. Early estimates are 40 plus million in damages on Grand Lake alone. Funny thing is the big boat show is going on this weekend. I'm tired and sore from digging myself, family, and friends out the last few days. Other than that I'm fine. The bad thing is we are in for another storm on Tuesday/Wednesday. They are saying 6-10 inches this go around but not as much wind. Think Dallas will be in on this one too. To think it was 76 degrees here last weekend and I was trimming shrubs and cleaning out flower beds. LOL!! Here are a few pics. They say will be in the 60's next weekend. I can't wait...bring on spring and summer!! David...See MoreDH has heart attack
Comments (23)Bless you and yours, I know it is a stressful time for you. My DBIL woke my sister up Friday morning about 1 AM sweating and having problems breathing. At the hospital he was stablized and then had a massive coronary attack. He died about 2 AM and he was 41 years old. No high blood pressure or cholesterol. My sister's faith is strong and she is doing much better emotionally than I would have expected her too. I don't know if the sudden deaths are easier than the long illnesses. I have been thru both and both are painful. Rosa...See MoreWater, water every darn where. Please advise.
Comments (12)hollysprings, their insurance company did not call me. When I called the appliance store the service manager did say to call him back with a list of the damage. That's as far as I've gotten with them. I called this afternoon and he did not return my call. Not a good sign. I'll call again tomorrow and if he does not call back I will call the owner of the company. Thanks once again chiefneil. I've put those hoses on my to do list as soon as this cluster flower levels a wee bit. I have not heard of these. Good grief deee. Thanks so much for that link. It's a very scary link but very informative. Why do we have homeowner's insurance should be a thread here. On my to do list as well. Thanks dilly. That's one of the thoughts that crossed my mind the next day. Thank goodness I was home and not at work for 9 hours. That would have been a disaster. flwrs_n_coThanks for your luck and best wishes. Luckily my basement is not finished. But there is stuff down there and it's a royal mess. A hero are you jejvtr. One more thing off my to do list :) Update: I called my local insurance agent yesterday, as they were closed over the weekend. My local agent (not the national big insurance company) who I have been with for 30+ years told me NOT to file a claim with them yet. She will put the notes in my personal file but not share with the insurance company until I contact her. She said: my claim, my deductable. I would lose the no claim discount. And who knows what underwriting does once they get a claim. For all the negative reasons listed above by some of you, she strongly suggested against filing saying that the appliance store has insurance and that's who I need to file the claim with. She gave me a list of things I needed to do and was very helpful. Called a water damage company. They are coming tomorrow afternoon with a moisture meter, industrial fans and dehumidifiers. I'll get the bill and forward to appliance store. Called the cork floor install guy and he is trying to fit me into his schedule ASAP. He is more concerned with mold between the subfloor than to cork because it is a glue down. I'll keep you posted. Thanks everyone. I know you are strangers but you have been a life raft in the dark sea of water! Just keep swimming......See More- 10 months agolast modified: 10 months ago
