Major health issue and hoping for input here;
Comments (8)I took the posted advice and composed an email to the company CEO about this mess and copied in both the first HR employee that I was working with along with the HR director who was supposed to be following up and finding out why the delay. I had also been playing phone tag with three different people at the labor board and was getting no help there. Seems no one really knew if they could help me. I had the state insurance dept lined up for my next step. Before sending my email I tried calling one last time and finally reached a receptionist who understood how upset I was and why I didn't want anyone's voice mail and wanted to speak to someone in HR. It took her several tries and she kept putting me on hold but would come back to let me know what steps she was taking and to apologize for the wait. She finally was able to connect me to the original person that was taking care of things till she went out on her own FLMA leave and I quickly brought her up to date and told her that I was taking steps to go to the CEO and the labor board and the state ins dept. Turns out she had turned over my paperwork to the HR director and after talking with me she put me on hold and went to see why nothing was done. Hello the paperwork was still just sitting on the director's desk! She then tried to talk me into applying for Medicaid instead of Cobra because the Cobra is very expensive. I told her that I had Cobra once before and the cost should be the same that the company would pay if I was still employed. Main reason is by electing Cobra I will have no lapse in coverage and it should run until next year when I will have to find a plan on ACA. It then took about 5 minutes top for her to send everything to Ceridian Benefits Services! Of course the issue now is that we are way pass the time limit of 45 days that an employer has to get the information to me to elect Cobra. And if I am denied because of this time lapse, my HR contact assures me she will make sure I get the coverage. We shall see. For sure I will be contacting the state ins dept if there is a problem and already have the info lined up and all my emails and forms ready to send to them. What a bloody nightmare this has been. One good thing is that the FDA has approved two new promising drugs in the last two weeks to treat Pulmonary Hypertension. Thanks everyone, just being able to vent here has helped and your responses have made things easier for me. Kat...See MoreKitchen gurus, please help me solve three issues!
Comments (29)Thank you all so much for your input and ideas and links. I spent a couple days REALLY thinking about the replies and then thinking about exactly what my problems are and needs are for solutions. I came up with some new realizations: I jolted awake Sunday in the wee hours, realizing that I had JUST given away to habitat for humanity the solution to my pot lid problem - grrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!! I HAD the perfect solution and gave it away! It was an upright roasting rack for chicken with a beer can but it was a certain shape that I COULD NOT find again, anywhere, now that I had given my vintage one away! In my case, I wanted something that did NOT impinge on the pot real estate (I was also worried that when sauteeing with a nearly empty pot and a heavy glass lid on the pot edge it might tip over with one of those edge clip things), was portable (sometimes I need a lid stand by the range, other times near the oven when using a dutch oven), either didn't get dirty while in use or very easy to clean, easy to store, and versatile enough to handle my little sauce pan lids up to my enameled cast iron lids and different knob types, too. What I ended up buying was the picture below, a stainless, commercial grade ham rack! I will put it upside down and put the pot lid upside down on the four "arms," and I can reach the knob under the hot lid easily without burning my hand. On the step stool this was agony to decide, but after REALLY considering how I want to use it, where I want to store it, and the fact that years ago even though I had a 6 ft high quality ladder I bought an ultra light one from Costco and it's absolutely been the GO TO ladder in the house ever since, so I know the value of "overpaying" for an ultralight - I went with the williams sonoma link, which is on back-order until March 14th. On the sponge, what I came to realize is that I'm having some significant hand strength issues due to unknown joint flare ups, and this has kept me from being able to scrub hard enough with a regular dish cloth to get crusty stuff off, therefore I need the sponge. It has also kept me from being able to wring out a sponge dry enough for it to be "dry" overnight. So I'm going to try a method where I put my dish cloth and sponge, dampened, in a glass and lidded glass small corningware each night and nuke it sterile. The lid and contained moisture should keep them from drying out and becoming a fire risk. I wanted a small carbon footprint solution, so running the dishwasher or washing machine every day is not likely to happen (we are a household of 3), yet I want a solution to the stinky sponge!! Thank you all once again! I love to read this board for ideas and of course eye candy! Comments (6)I went back to mixing Fresh Step, the old litter, with Tidy cat. ItÂs only been 3 days. I will have to check with my husband to see if he has picked up any "deposits" lately. I have not found any. She does not seem to be constipated. I bought some new hairball medicine, which is an oil I have been mixing with her wet food. Unlike all the others I have tried so far, she likes this one. I have been wondering if the oil will make her stool softer too. I started using that maybe 2 weeks ago. The hairballs have now stopped. The floor pooping predates the hairballs (which show up every year in the spring); but IÂm wondering if having hairballs could have caused the uptick in incidence I noticed. The newspaper mostly makes it easier to clean the box. When I dump it, it all slides easily into the garbage. But I have noticed (maybe this is me speculating) that she does not like the feeling of the plastic under the litter on her toes. When I have run out of paper she has objected (donÂt ask me how I know, she just comes to me with this lookÂ). I usually put a heavy sprinkle of baking soda under the paper. I find the paper, which goes up the sides too, wicks the moisture away from just the one spot and makes it dry faster. She does not cover what she does in the box and never has. Just does it and leaves. If IÂm nearby and smell it, I do it!...See MoreAny Advice? Cat behavioral issue--sigh.
Comments (31)My gate came and works well. So I can shut the living room, dining room, and den off from the cats. If I move the gate elsewhere I can also cut off the whole upstairs, confining them to kitchen and basement. It is not beautiful but it is easy to take up and down and I can live with it. Today I came home and immediately inspected the living room for feces as is my habit, only later realizing they couldn't get in the living room. I felt a notable release of tension--at least I have reclaimed my lovely living and entertaining spaces and no longer fear stepping in poop or having it arrive on the carpet 5 minutes before guests are expected. I think I'm drawing the conclusion that a cat may decide to eliminate outside the box for no good reason that a person can possibly understand, and that some such behaviors simply cannot be changed. Then one moves to accommodation (I guess) with the goal of minimizing headache and damage. I'll see how it continues to go but am thinking of putting doggy pee pads all around the litter boxes so at least the feces are not on the floor and are easy to clean up. miss-sistersue, I'll bet the problem cat would love a litter box that contained soft rug material--preferably in an all-wool, high quality oriental pattern like the one she so loves in the living room :) One thing I didn't say before is that about a year ago my other cat, the diabetic one, began to stick his sizable butt outside the litter box and urinated half in the box and half out. So I was cleaning pee up quite a bit. I experimented with many boxes and finally found a brand that stops the problem. I also have the litter boxes sitting on big plastic washing machine pans; they catch any overflow and litter kicking. I got these ideas from helpful people on this forum. So I guess I did successfully solve one foul problem, albeit with lots of searching and trial and error....See More- 9 months ago
