I never go to the movies but went a month ago just as a birthday treat to do something different. We saw the Downton Abby movie. It was awful, my husband slept through it, but I still loved the ritual of going to a small independent theater, seeing previews, and sitting in the dark in front of a large screen.

Sorry to hear a bad review of Downton Abby as I loved the PBS series. Maybe they waited too long to make the movie and we’ve all gotten over the end of the series? 😊

So, as one cheeky person to another, the answer to your question is - No.

Not since the theater where I worked for 37+ years shut down in early January 2021 due to the effects of COVID on the industry ... which segued to a permanent closure related to the senior owner's battle with pancreatic cancer and a church congregation's offer to buy the property.

We have a wobderful independent film institute that shows quality movies and also shows classics, often followed by a discussion.

I want to see Blue Moon, about LorenzHart.

The last movie I saw was the latest version of Superman. I hated it but Superman is played by a local man. In fact he came to watch the movie at this theater, but not when I was there.

Havent lately. But I do enjoy going with DH to a high quality movie.

I went to the Downton Abbey movie expecting it to be bad. Of course it was. The show was too , but that didn't stop me from watching it. Some things are just guilty pleasures.

No. I can't remember the last time. It was probably when my kids were younger, so that's some time ago.

I haven't been to a movie theater in years. I can't remember the title of the last movie I saw in a theater.

We go when there's something mildly interesting, which means no superhero stuff. We have seen Spinal Tap 2 and Naked Gun, both of which are dumb silly fun. I'd like to see Nuremburg, but the only theater showing it isn't close and the times are inconvenient. SIgh. I always think that I'll catch a movie on Netflix, but I rarely bother to look at what's on.

I would very much like to see Blue Moon as well, but I'll wait until it hits the streaming platforms. The last movie I saw in a theatre was Mary Poppins Returns at a nearby multiplex - so 2018. I was not thrilled by the experience - not about the movie, but the place was too cold, way too loud and even tho there were plenty of empty seats, other people sat quite close and were rather disruptive. This was reserved seating too 🙄

No. It seems they just don't make them like they used to. There hasn't been anything that sounds remotely good enough for me to go to a theater. I'm not that much of a movie fan anyway. The last movies that I enjoyed in a theater were Slumdog Millionaire in 2008, and Elton John's Rocketman in 2019. I also went out to see all of the Toy Story movies. (I love them all). WOW! Those were ages ago!

DH does not like going to movies, or the theater, or most concerts, so I haven’t been in a while. Special screenings are out there for indie films and special occasions like the 60th anniversary of something, but they often seem to be on nights I can’t go! A friend of mine has a documentary showing locally soon with a talkback and I have another obligation that night.

We are fortunate that, even though the big multiplexes closed, we have a few independents, a college, and our community center theater. I would just rather go with someone without being a ”third wheel” to them and their spouse.

We have a theater within walking distance and have not seen a movie since pre-COVID. We used to go to maybe two a month. I wanted to see Oppenheimer, but later saw it on Netflix.

I don’t use Netflix - I know — I can hear the collective gasp of horror out there! So,unless I want to rent the movie via my cable service offerings, I go to the movies. I do enjoy the experience of the sparse matinee audience in a nice theater. I like to come outside & wow! it’s still daylight! Fortunately my small city still has quite a few of the Regal & AMC theaters in locations that are convenient & easy to get to. We have a favorite smaller theater but it doesn’t often have first run movies. My last visit there was over a year ago & was with the same couple who accompanied us to yesterday’s movie. I do remember that we all enjoyed that movie but cannot resurrect the name of it from the archives of my memories.

We really like Rami Malek. We saw him in" Amateur". And.."Twilight".

Tuesday we saw "Predator Badlands". It was EXCELLENT! I Highly recommend it.

I remembered - The last movie I saw before yesterday was ”The Accountant 2”

Wow Nicole! Just looked at trailer! I think we'll go this weekend! That is the best kind of movie to see in a theatre. It has great audience ratings (the only one I go by for sure) on Rotten Tomatoes.

We used to go to the movies about 3-4 times a year but have not been back to a theater since just before covid hit. Now we'd rather stay at home and rent any recent movie releases via cable.

Haven't been since 1991 when I saw Beauty and the Beast with my four year old.

@KW PNW Z8..We've rented "The Accountant 2" from the library...twice! Loved it! We own the 1st one.

About 3 months ago we went to see Hamilton. I read all the historical stuff I could find first, then went. Still it's all singing and could not understand the words. Musicals aren't my favorite, but thought I would get something out of it. NO.

Last one Downton Abbey. Wicked before that. I would agree Downton was a huge disappointment. The other two were enjoyable. This one was empty of information the audience wanted. Particularly on the children. The acting seemed tired. They should have quit while they were ahead. Both Downton and Wicked were family choices, I went along because that's what one does. I prefer watching at home in my jammies to large empty theatres that are too loud and too cold.

Everything KW PNW Z8 wrote about ”Nuremberg” is what I think too. Very good, timely, movie.

"Springstein" the movie was good but not as wonderful as "Like a Complete Unknown" about Bob Dylan. Th Accountant 2 was excellent. The Bad Guys 2 was adorable. "Roofman" was just O.K. This weekend I'm looking forward to " Now You See Me' and probably "The Running Man".

I recently saw Hamilton on the big screen; I’ve seen it multiple times on stage, and seeing it on the big screen was just FANTASTIC fun. I’m not normally much interested in musicals, but Lin Manuel Miranda happened to be the commencement speaker at my son’s college graduation in 2015 (LMM is an alumnus) and he completely blew my mind, such a charismatic, brilliant creative genius! I was therefore inspired to buy tickets and fly to NYC to see it on Broadway that fall; it was beyond any theatrical experience I’ve ever had. I saw it several more times over the next few years. As for current films, I really want to see the Springsteen movie, and the two recent Linklater releases, too. Most recently I saw One Battle After Another, and that was quite something…I’m still thinking about it.

Re the Downton movie. A group of friends went, but I didn't join them. Hard to imagine Downton Abbey without Maggie Smith. But I'll undoubtedly watch it when it comes to Netflix.

Yes, I keep watch for a good movie. When I see one that is appealing, I contact ladies in my social circle and we meet and see it together--a way for friends from my work life, my family life, my church life, etc. to make new acquaintances in another circle and a way to interact with real people again.

Downton Abbey was the last movie I saw, so that was about a month and a half or so ago. I used to go to the movies more than I do now -- not really often, but at least more often.

Now You See Me was an O.K. movie.

Worth seeing when it is T.V. Running Man earned it's three stars. Be aware it is very violent. Sadly it has a message about government today.

There is a big Regal movie house in town but it was open just a few short years before it just closed up and now there is this extensive building that is slated to be demolished and more apartments are going up. What a waste of everything!!! But I have not been to a movie house in years, anyway. Most of the offerings were of no interest to me.

We have streaming on the TV and I find that to be so much better as to choices of what to watch and in the comfort of my big comfy chair and I can knit while watching. Movie houses are the pits. I really dont care if they all closed.

So many of those darned kids animated movies and superheros..........no, just no. I simply abhor musicals, so those are out. People singing theri way through life gives me the creeps.

Of the movies that I have gone to see in teh past three decades, almost every one of them had an audience that you could count on one hand. Really, they were playing to an almost empty room. The movie house was in trouble way before covid.

We just finished The Gold -- steaming on Masterpiece. Excellent!

Agree about The Accountant -- both of them. What a concept.

I think people have become hermits, and it started before Covid. Theres so much tension, and we hear about every bit of nasty, wherever in the world it takes place.

I missed hearing about The Accountant - a swashbuckling Robin Hood, CPA, righting wrongs and protecting common folk? Sounds like so many people I know and the work we all did. ;-) . And shining a light on some mental conditions? What's not to like?

Elmer, I recommend seeing them in order - the life story of the brothers flows much more smoothly watched that way IMO. I saw Accountant 2 first & at a movie house. Then we came home & found The Accountant on TV.

FYI...not to give anything away....but...."Predator Badlands" had an "Avatar" feel to it. That we are ALL connected. We pick our values. We can be responsible care takers of sentient beings.

Does #1 start out with the drama, action and intensity of his studying for the CPA exam? Those are dynamic times not to be missed!!! ;-)

Not to talk about myself too much but it was easily the worst and most tedious 8 months of my life. A good thing I took it very seriously and kept at it. The worse and more disgusting the preparation experience got, and it started out awful and went downhill from there, the more motivated I was to dig in even deeper to make it a one and done experience.

The first-time passing rate has been around 20% for a long time. Doing so isn't impossible but it's very hard. I did it. I wasn't lucky, I was prepared.

Sorry for the distraction. It's something I remain very proud of and I rarely if ever bring it up in a social conversation unless someone asks. It would be like asking a lawyer how many times they took the bar exam, though that has a much higher first time passing rate.

Elmer - Your story of CPA exam has a familiar ring to me. My younger brother successfully navigated that path in CA too. He also passed first time. He, and his family, were justifiably proud. He also told us the bar exam had a higher first time pass rate.

I can’t answer your plot / storyline question about Accountant. I only remember that some of the nuances of the brother / sibling relationship were made more clear to me after watching the first movie. That’s why I think the story flows better watched in order. I’m thinking about @nicole note about a #3 & thinking about how #2 ended. I am remembering that ending was not a full wrap up or closing of the story but did lend itself as a ”To Be Continued”!

It's a national exam so taking it in one state is the same as taking it in another. Licensing rules and prereqs can differ from place to place, though those are more in conformity from state to state these days than they used to be.

It can be passed in sections, and needn't be passed all at once. Though doing so is a not inconsequential achievement that employers do take note of.

Performance in taking the exam acts as an objective data point for employers in hiring and staff retention decisions. Passing means the individual has demonstrated the ability to learn and understand a very large volume of information and then when presented an issue or a problem requiring critical thinking and problem solving, can do a proper analysis and work it through to resolution. Under a time crunch.

I'm fine not knowing the plot, my comments were intended to be a bit silly as with the swashbuckling accountant. The reputation some hold of accountants being introverted dullards is no truer or more prevalent for some as it is in any profession or occupation. In what I did, those lacking a sincere personable and outgoing personality didn't do well or last long.

You're right. And unfortunately, far too many of those among us are dumber than doornails, in addition to being crazy.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune but take some solace in knowing that you're not alone in being a victim of a needless and easily avoidable experience causing you a loss, inconvenience, anger and grief.

My brother did pass it all at once. Once & done is his style. He’s def not either introverted or a dullard but I attribute that to being the youngest and having all girl siblings. 😁 He did work the requisite time in general accounting in a mid sized firm in SAC to gain the CPA licensure but hasn’t worked as CPA since. It was a career stepping stone for him.

Yes— Nicole are you & DH okay? I missed your post! Did this crazy person offer insurance info? These parking lot mishaps are an insurance nightmare. In my experience police won’t get involved for reporting either.

We're fine. We filed a police report online, then an insurance claim. Mercedes Benz....going into the shop tomorrow. I took a photo of her license plate, as she chatted about having just been to church...and couldn't hear a thing because she was listening to a sermon on the radio. We exchanged insurance info, drivers license....it was nuts! (That's true about police not responding to private parking lots unless drug or alcohol is involved.)

Elmer....in the 1st Accountant movie he's writing formulas ALL over the office's clear glass walls! ....not realistic at all...but...making the guy look super smart. Everyone has now heard of "Free Form by Jackson Pollock". That movie made him famous to people like me, who'd NEVER heard of him.
