What have you been *Late to the party* for?
Comments (55)Used to be an early adopter on most things, including tech and fashion (lived in NYC as a single person), but have turned into a luddite slug wrt anything but a few areas. pesky, you're behind the times with a big-screen that doesn't hang on the wall? LOL we still have our 1993 27" Toshiba CRT tv as our only one! We periodically shop for a larger new tv but we just can't seem to get rid of this one since it still works. Would be a shame to waste it. We figure when it dies, we'll get whatever is best (within our price range) then, as we did back in 1993. Don't think the new item will last as long, though :( -- that's what ticks us off about buying new technology these days. Funny thing: I got a DroidX the day it came out (replacing years of free craigslist phones). I was looking at it one day recently at the gas station, trying to navigate my little corner of it, and the gas station attendant came up excitedly -- he'd just gotten a DroidX the day before and had it *completely* customized -- he'd downloaded wallpaper, put tons of music on it, had each home page completely arranged and connected the way he wanted it...his excitement at encountering a fellow Droid owner turned to disgust when he saw that I use *one* home page and only the very basics there......See MoreMovies?
Comments (19)I've written before about the telephone pollster for a theater chain who gave up in frustration after asking me about the last movie I'd seen. I'd told him to wait while I asked my DH; came back to say it had been more than ten years, and we couldn't recall the title. We usually have a lot of Masterpiece things on the DVR, supplemented by movies and (mostly British) series on DVDs that we get from our library, . The last movie we saw on DVD was "Testament of Youth" -- recommend it. BTW, I see that "Home Fires" is in production in the UK with a second season. It will probably be on PBS in the US in late 2016. I wish there would be more of "The Village"....See MoreWhat have you been up to lately? Cooking? Projects? Reading?
Comments (15)I'm finishing a restoration of a shelf clock mechanism that was built in 1830. That's just the mechanism, mind you. There's much left to do cosmetically on the case. This old clock keeps good time for a pendulum regulated clock. I could improve it designing a temperature compensated pendulum, however, it is good the way it is and is authentic in form and function. It was my wife's grandfather's clock. We estimate that the clock was 70 yr old when he acquired it. According to a note I found on the back of the clock face, it had been repaired in 1933. That repair included the replacement of a gear. I found a note inscribed on that gear that named both the repairman and the owner. This clock should be good for another 50 years....See MoreWhat Hobby or Project have you been doing lately?
Comments (39)You guys are doing really creative/fun (to me) stuff; I love seeing it all! Thanks to Thistledew—and to this thread (which was a great topic, btw)—we now know who has what talents/interests and that could be a great resource for us all as we tackle our own projects, don’t you think? “I am always working on my Genealogy hobby. I love working on enlarging the family trees for family and friends. There is always a mystery to solve!” I’m working on that too, ghoghunter. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it), it’s a project without a finish line! And sure enough, I’m in the thick of trying to solve a huge mystery right now! I’m also working—little by little—on organizing the house. Here’s one of the current works in progress: Anybody else’s sewing box look like this?...See More- 9 months ago
