Annie, What have you been up to Lately?
Comments (23)Ann T, Cooper is loving having me home more than anyone else, I think, although Makayla and Bud are having a ball playing with me. Elery, well, I'm not so sure, LOL. dcarch, I can't get actually livestock other than the cattle and horses, which can get a week's worth of food and water at a time, until I move out there. We'll get feeder pigs from one of the 4H kids in the spring and slaughter them in the fall, but breeding stock will have to wait until I'm actually living there. I'm kind of leaning toward Mulefoot hogs, as they pasture well, we'll see. I sure want to make some more homemade bacon, though. The Poulet de Bresse rarely makes it out of France, but there is a Canadian variety of the Bresse called Blue Foot. It was nearly eradicated during the Avian flu scare but I understnad remaining stock is in California, so maybe, someday. The flavor is supposed to be far superior to other varieties. Having never eaten it, I can't remark on that. The girls do want to get some laying hens though, all different varieties, LOL. As long as I get good fresh eggs, I guess I don't care, I'd get half a dozen different heirloom varieties but they have to be sturdy enough to withstand Michigan winters without frostbite to their combs, etc. So, big gardens, fresh eggs, farm raised pork, oh yeah, I'm looking forward to eating well. And, of course, Elery is planning an outdoor, wood fired bread/pizza oven. Annie...See MoreWhat have you been *Late to the party* for?
Comments (55)Used to be an early adopter on most things, including tech and fashion (lived in NYC as a single person), but have turned into a luddite slug wrt anything but a few areas. pesky, you're behind the times with a big-screen that doesn't hang on the wall? LOL we still have our 1993 27" Toshiba CRT tv as our only one! We periodically shop for a larger new tv but we just can't seem to get rid of this one since it still works. Would be a shame to waste it. We figure when it dies, we'll get whatever is best (within our price range) then, as we did back in 1993. Don't think the new item will last as long, though :( -- that's what ticks us off about buying new technology these days. Funny thing: I got a DroidX the day it came out (replacing years of free craigslist phones). I was looking at it one day recently at the gas station, trying to navigate my little corner of it, and the gas station attendant came up excitedly -- he'd just gotten a DroidX the day before and had it *completely* customized -- he'd downloaded wallpaper, put tons of music on it, had each home page completely arranged and connected the way he wanted it...his excitement at encountering a fellow Droid owner turned to disgust when he saw that I use *one* home page and only the very basics there......See MoreGood Morning on Saturday!
Comments (11)I had a busy morning for a Saturday. Georgysmom made me feel guilty posting everything she accomplished yesterday ;0 I scrubbed and baked those 3 huge baking potatoes I got at the store for .83 and when they cool, I'll make twice baked potatoes and freeze all but one, which we'll have tonight. Did two loads of laundry and changed our sheets. Then I took everything out of my spice/baking cabinet and washed all the shelves and--now get this--arranged all my spices in alphabetical order. Isn't that OCD? I bought a thing called a Spice Stack. It is a metal box with 3 shelves that pull out and down so you can see the spices. Each shelf holds 9 jars, or double the amount of those little jars. It's really cool. So no more rummaging around and taking 15 jars out just to find the one I'm looking for. I was surprised I only had doubles of 3 spices. That was pretty nice so I cleaned the pantry, too. Oh, Phyllis, I wish you hadn't mentioned the "G" word (garage). Ours is a disaster. Marie-ndcal, did you flood again? Didn't you have bad flooding this spring, too? Bless your heart, you have every right to feel bad, but wish you felt better....See MoreGood Morning on Thursday the 10th
Comments (9)It has been a heckuva week, cannot wait till next week. My boss gets married Saturday so we are heading to DC on Friday and we were busy today. Had a manicure at 8, got home and hit the ground running. My travel work was crazy and so was my 'real' job! LOL!! Last minute work getting the band (they are from L.A.) set up, finalizing the rehearsal and out of town guest party for Friday night, the Sunday brunch......and trying to get the actual work for the office done..... It's no wonder that I've been starting at 7 each morning and finishing up at 9 at night....See Moremamapinky0
