Has anyone tried Alton Brown's meatloaf?
Comments (65)I've never used a recipe for meatloaf and wonder if anyone else makes it ad hoc every time. I start with 2 eggs, beaten, and crumbled end pieces of bread that I've saved in the freezer. I add some milk and a large squirt of ketchup. Then I put in adobo and dried oregano, basil, and thyme (sometimes I add other herb combos). I mix that up well and then add about 2 1/2 lbs. of 80 percent lean ground beef and diced onions and green bell pepper that I've sauteed in olive oil and cooled. I salt and pepper the meat, add some extra olive oil and mix it all together. I form it into a large loaf, cover it with tomato sauce and cook it in a baking dish at 375 for about an hour or slightly more. It has a lot of liquid it it when it comes out of the oven and is juicy and delicious. Sometimes I get a better do than other times but it's always very good....See MoreWhat did you eat as a child that you wouldn't eat now?
Comments (120)Jello. Only eat it now on that day before one of those procedures we must get every 5 or 10 years. Packaged pizza mix. It was all we had in the mid 60’s small town, and we teenagers thought it was so cool to make and press out dough on an pan and have pizza at a sleep-over. iceberg lettuce. I’m sure I have had it as an adult, but I try to avoid it. Thankfully my mother was a wonderful cook, my dad hated casseroles and lunch meat, so we avoided a lot of really bad stuff. He did eat sardines and saltines once in a while, and he had the kitchen totally to himself when he ate them. Canned LeSeur baby peas. One of the only canned foods my mother did buy other than tomato paste or sauce. I still like them on occasion. Loved them with her homemade mashed potatoes with butter. I would mix them together on my plate....See Moredo you have food delivery!
Comments (41)I looked into the grocery delivery out of curiosity and maybe to try once just for fun. I guess I'm cheap cos I couldn't justify it. haha They add on an extra percentage to the groceries themselves plus the delivery. The main grocery store where I live has curbside and delivery. For delivery they charge extra for delivery and for a person to shop for them. I understand people need to get paid but I also understand this type of service is either an extreme luxury or extreme necessity depending on the situation. I'm able so I will do it myself. :) I don't mind and I like to see what I'm buying when it comes to groceries. In the 13 years we've lived at our house I'd say we've had food delivered less the 5 times. We'd rather go somewhere or eat at home....See MoreFood that you won't (not can't) eat?
Comments (80)I read that Dear Abby column too. It seemed a bit odd to me - like it wasn't the whole story. I realize many of those letters are edited for space, privacy, and relevance and I wonder what else that person wrote. I do recall that part of Abby's reply was that she assumed they took the kids somewhere afterwards for more acceptable fare. I take a very small amount and take a bite or 2 to be polite, then try to discreetly get rid of it, if possible. That mainly works at casual events. When I like something, I clean my plate. I cannot get behind the idea that one shouldn't do that because it's not 'good manners'. I know some people do leave food on their plate for that reason....See More- last month
