What Is Subsistence Cooking For You?

The whole family is away in California, and it’s just me here. I feed the ratties ( tonight banana and lettuce plus their rat food ), try not to look at the lonely cat dish, and have no interest in cooking.

Still, one must feed oneself. So, “subsistence cooking”.

For me, it is a revolving menu of instant ramen with a can of tuna one night, an indifferently roasted chicken the next, a ham sandwich the third, and we’re back to ramen. I’ll lose weight, I expect.

Do you ever not want to do more than the minimum cooking to feed yourself, and not care overmuch about what you’re eating?

When in that state, what do you cook, or not cook?
