I simply cannot fathom why anyone would shoot at a firefighter.

I just read that the shooter attacked them because they had asked him to move his vehicle so they could get their equipment to the fire. The video is especially moving because you can see the fire still burning in the background.

Shooter started the fire to lure responders into an ambush. The mountain is still on fire. We, as a community, are still trying to process it all. Our bumbling idiot of a Sheriff is not helping 😑

I read he was upset that he was too short to qualify as a firefighter. But a truly horrid pic is of him and his mom holding AR rifles . In other pics, they are wearing red MAGA caps.

What a weird thing to say. There are loonies in CA too. There are loonies everywhere. Your comment was intended to disparage the people who live there. And it sounds elitist, like there aren't "loonies" in CA.

I'm trying to find ways to write shorter comments and this is what can happen when a comment is too brief.

Of course there are loonies here. Lots and lots, of all kinds, and especially scary extremists on both sides of the political spectrum. Did I suggest otherwise?

What I had in mind with my comment was thinking back to a few pieces I've come across not all that long ago that suggested that Idaho and other parts of the inland region where it is have a higher number of active members of neo-fascist "militias", as a percentage of the population, than are to be found in other parts of the country. Shall we call them red extremists?

Blue extremists aren't well armed and are more likely to carry signs and hurl brie covered Molotov croissants and scones (said in jest). Red extremists tend to have enough firearms in their homes to defend us from an invasion and shoot real bullets.

The ramping up of resistance and the vitriol it inspires was brought up nationally about a year ago. It seems many did not hear the underlying warning. Sadly we are seeing it where we live daily. ME ME ME ME doesn't work for a productive positive society. The attacks upon our uniformed bravest are particularly disturbing. More reason to be on our knees praying for a return to sanity.

I'm very glad to hear this from you, and I hope you feel consistently the same about this. Including concerning the criminal conduct one January in the recent past when thugs tried to steal our democracy.

But I'd suggest that if you want more people around you to work toward the return to sanity, your suggesting they need to pray to do so may not be the right way to get there.

Murdering first responders is heinous. In this case I'm reading that two battalian chiefs: Frank Harwood and John Morrison were killed. A fire engineer, David Tysdal was critically injured and had to endure multiple surgeries. These were people who had dedicated their lives to helping and protecting others. I feel so sad for their families and their firefighting communities. It's pretty terrifying realizing there are people out there that are just completely unhinged.
