Meet my new Valentine (his name is Joey)!

last month

My granddaughter and I drove to an animal shelter yesterday so I could adopt this sweet dog. He's 13 years old, he's a beagle/Jack Russell mix, and his name is Joey.

I'm delighted to report that Joey seems to love his new home. Certainly everyone in the family has fallen in love with him! Here's his official portrait. 😊

My two older grandsons came over as soon as he arrived, and as I was giving them my speech about how to approach a new dog who might be a bit nervous in new surroundings, Joey jumped up onto the sofa and settled in between them. And that's the way things have been going. ❤️

The shelter sent us home with several days worth of canned food (salmon and sweet potato). He eats two cans per day. It's been 15 years since we had dogs, and I was shocked at the price of this food when I looked it up to buy more. It costs $3.75 for one can. At that price it would cost $225/mo. to feed him. I checked other grain-free, high-quality protein canned dog foods, and they're all around the same. He likes it, and he looks good, so I hate to mess with his diet. But I need to find something more affordable. Any suggestions?
