@nicole I know! I had to remind a store clerk who was checking my ID for an alcohol purchase and struggling to read the year through my wallet case (I am in my 70s but they are require to check everyone - no common sense judgements allowed) that he really only needed to see the 19 in the year. No one born in the 1900’s is under age! Shocking!

It's sad to need to fill out a DOB form where the days, months, and years have to be selected from a column -- you have to speed-scroll scroll to find your year.

@Zoe 29, it's a dig at people with dietary restrictions and allergies, letting them know that this is not the restaurant for them.

In 2024, you're 24 years past the 19th century - so if born back then, considered an adult in most jurisdictions.

I was born in '29 ...

... so have been old enough to buy booze for quite a few years.

@Zoe 29 it may be regional, but around here the level and sheer number of people with special dietary restrictions is ridiculous! EVERYONE (it seems) is looking for restaurants that are gluten free, sugar free, nut free, animal product free, garlic free, etc. I used to go out to lunch once in a while with a group of women from my swim aerobics class but finally had to give it up because of the demands of so many of the participants. Not only did the servers have to deal with a bunch of single checks but the high maintenance dietary needs of so many was ridiculous. I was embarrassed to be a part of the group that the servers had to deal with. I understand that there are real food allergies, like peanuts and gluten, but I'm talking about simply dietary preferences, of the trendy kind.
