Handy pill accessory
I've been using those 7 day pill keepers for a few years. I started using them when a couple of times I could not remember taking that day's medication. I seem to be taking more medication than I used to and the pills now don't fit. Found on Amazon, a great solution, xl keepers, four 7 day keepers sold in a plastic case so I can arrange them a month at a time. Considering the alternative, I am happy to be older, and I like finding little accessories that help me age more easily.

Need advice for pilling an uncooperative cat
Comments (10)I don't use liquid antibiotics anymore because they taste vile and almost always elicit a major battle. Instead, I request tablets or capsules and use a piller to place it as far back in the mouth as possible. First, though, I offer the cat some canned food gruel or tuna juice or chicken broth or maybe even a tiny bit of milk - just a few laps to wet the cat's throat before I administer the med. That makes it MUCH easier for the cat to swallow the pill (just like a drink of water makes it easier for us to swallow pills). As soon as I've given the pill, I let the cat lap up some more of the desired liquid to wash down the pill. It also helps to coat the pill with a tiny bit of butter which not only masks and taste of the pill, but also helps it slide down the throat easier. Since you're also syringe feeding, you can simply load the med into the piller and have it handy to administer between syringes of food. The syringed food will wet the throat and wash down the pill. With a very skittish cat, your best bet is a firm towel wrap, then sitting on the floor with him between your knees. With one of my boys who required syringe feeding, I was able to keep him adequately controlled and prevent him from hooking me with his front claws by simply pinning a hand towel around his neck and letting it extend down his front like a long bib. Your boy may require a more encompassing wrap, though. You just need to experiment to see whether more or less restraint works best with him. With his extremely high WBC count, it is imperative that he gets the antibiotics every day as instructed, even if you have to take him back to the vet or hire one of the vet techs to come to your house to help you administer them. As far as the food in concerned, keep trying to tempt him to eat on his own. Eating the veterinary diet would be best, but it's more important that he eat something - anything. Try some baked chicken torn into small bits for him. Try small amounts of tuna. Or perhaps deli ham. When a cat is inappetant, he is easily overwhelmed and put off by large meals. Offer him only very small amounts at a time, but offer them every couple of hours. Warm his food to really bring out the aroma. If all else fails, make yourself some Tuna Helper or a nice salmon filet and sit down next to him to eat it. Even when my CRF boy, Billy, won't eat anything else, he'll sometimes try to "steal" something tasty off of my plate while I'm eating. And of course, under the circumstances, I let him. Once you get his infection under control with the antibiotics, I expect his appetite will return. By the way ... as the globe warms (if you believe that it is) ... the permafrost will be melting, over a long period, more than likely ... ... and as it does, it releases methane ... ... which is much more damaging to the atmosphere than the carbon dioxide that's being released and adds to the acidification of the oceans, among other deleterious things. ole joyful...See More"Ledge" sinks and accessories -- do you use them?
Comments (44)All good comments and things to consider. Having a 45" sink would be nice but couldn't work with my Ikea cabs. The drainboard allowed for a minor mod and use of two base cabs rather than one large one. I find the drainboard very useful. I love cleaning and chopping veggies in that half. I like being able to slide them to pans in the ledge below. I like having the water and soap right there for my obsessive hand washing. You can still accomplish a similar arrangement with the other sinks you're looking at, but with less space. My use of the ledge evolves throughout the day. Right now I have a dish drainer in it with clean dishes. If I'm cleaning a lot of veggies, I'll first use it for all the debris so I do not have to let it get stuck in the grid. A garbage bowl can be used instead, but this is so easy and the trash/recycle is in the pullout below. I thaw most meat in the fridge, but do quick thaw fish, pork tenderloins, and chicken breasts in the plastic accessories. They are the perfect size, are right there to drain and refill with cold water. Since they are raised I still have room on the grid below for other items draining in colanders as I work on the drainboard side chopping. I mostly keep the other side for dirties, cans draining, and water use by others. The drainboard came in very handy during the holidays for opening and cleaning large, messy items, like turkey, ham, and tenderloin. The ledge is a clean part of my sink so keeping those items out of the basin is a plus for me. Of course, I disinfect before and after. I always open my meat packages there to keep the mess as contained as possible. I like that the sink becomes my command center and I pretty much do not need to move much. I take recipe items from the pantry and fridge that is just across the aisle to the right. As I finish each stage of prepping I move the trays of prepped food to the counter behind me. DW is out of the way to the left. I only go a few steps in each direction. I mention this as layout to suit your cooking style, minimize movement, and stay out of the paths of others help make your prepping experience good. A large sink surely helps, whichever you can fit and afford. Critical to my good experience with the Stages 45 is the Kohler Karbon. It is a wonderful faucet that greatly enhances my time at the sink. All said, we can adapt to our equipment and make the best of what we have. Comments (3)The Presenza from Costco is the better choice because it is made of thicker steel. The thinner 20 ga. steel is too thin for sinks, and you will not be happy with it. A 16 ga. sink is even better. The Presenza sink is made in China as is the Glacier Bay sink. A better choice for you may be an asymmetrical sink with a small bowl paired with a larger. The small bowl is handy for food prep, and the disposer should be placed in this bowl to dispose of scraps. This one is from Franke, but almost all stainless manufacturers have one or two. Most sink accessories can be purchased separately. A cutting board designed to fit over the sink, is a common item at Amazon. A strainer can just sit in the bottom of the sink. It does not have to slide along the edge. But if you want one that hangs on the edge, try something like this, from Amazon: One accessory that is useful and usually must be obtained from the manufacturer is the grid, which prevents a lot of scratches on the sink bottom. 2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoI think I understand what you’re talking about Lucille. I try to remember to take any medicines that are in my seven compartment box as I’m falling asleep, but there’s a counter incentive because some of the pills are large enough to choke a horse.
Here is my routine for my Sunday through Saturday seven day translucent pillbox :
– – After I take the day’s pills and I’m a slob, in that I take all of my pills. All at once, I don’t care what the directions say and that’s for my lab test. They’ll be consistent if I’m consistent all pills all at once.
– – After I take that day’s pills, I leave the flap open. That tells me that I took the things.
– – if I miss taking them for a day, I go and take the next day‘s pills in the next slot and I put a little piece of paper in the box with the pills I forgot to take the day before.
That’s it. I would go bonkers with a 30 day pillbox I’d knock it off the side table and onto the floor.
So my little system is crude and I probably am going to be under or over medicated with vitamin D, but I don’t think so ;)
I’ve been doing this a long time. What’s a while my doctor will mention that aren’t I supposed to take a certain pill at 6 AM in the morning? They must not be paying attention because I’m not usually awake at 6 AM in the morning unless it’s to use the toilet or get a drink of water. I’m definitely not gonna be taking pills at 6 o’clock in the morning. And the milk in my coffee two or three other pills I take all at the same time. If some interfere with some other pill, my lab tests will show that I don’t have enough or do have enough or whatever. As long as I’m consistent.
For all the news I inhale, I must not be paying close enough attention because there’s a lot of new terms. I can’t keep up with like binary non-binary; transcranio-vaginal; plumescent-hetero-Pleistocenic; Semi-quasinic-pre-gluteal….
PS CAVEAT— whenever I am entering a dash or two hyphens, HOUZZ crashes, and I lose what I was writing. It doesn’t matter if it was one word or two paragraphs. Could somebody at the who’s HOUZZ who department fix this? VERY ANNOYING..
PS L, I do like the colors!
