Rotisserie? I am yearning? Or looking for a way to waste more time!?

Does anyone here cook with a rotisserie? What’s it like? Do you use it often?

Over the past month, I got this ”Rotisserie” fantasy. ”I need a rotisserie!”

It started when I came across some rotisserie units (rods, spikes, motor) new in box from a Jenn—Air oven. I thought we could fashion a way to set them up over a small Weber propane grill. But then I thought it might take a 20 Lb. propane tank to cook a chicken that way. Then, measured the rotisserie units and they seem too short if I wanted to span a grill and have the chicken away from direct heat. Sigh.

Then, I began looking at the Weber 22” charcoal grill kettles for which one can buy either a Weber or third party rotisserie unit. Fun! The more I looked and read, the more the parts began to add up.

🔥 The 22” Weber Kettle (different designs of ash catchers)

🔥 The two “char pans”

🔥 Grill with the two folding sides

🔥 Rotiserrie unit with motor and the 22” rim extension ( onto which the rotisserie unit fits/rests)

🔥 Of course a table of some sort would be nice.

Too expensive for me to experiment? Would I use it more than X times a year? And doesn’t Rotisserie mean FAT?

I looked at Craigslist and found a used set up. $150!!! Would DH fetch it?

Oh, sigh, it was in a state closer to the North Pole — 8 hours by car just one way. Cancel! For now.

DH asks if I would really use it much? ”Don’t we have enough outdoor cooking gadgets?” (Gulp.)

Do you have, use and enjoy an outdoor rotisserie? Charcoal? or what?

Lonejack, Do you roast that pig this way? I once went to a pig roast — it was delicious, but I was glad I wasn’t the one getting it started…..
