A large up-lit palm in Sicily. I thought it looked unusual.

jrb, that looks like a very old crepe myrtle, and i wonder if it succumbed to bark scale. Many have in the southeast in the last few years.

Arcy (and others), recent good news about the banyan tree in Lahaina is that it is showing signs of life. Some estimate approx 20% will have to be cut back, but it is showing signs of new growth in recent months and steps are being taken to monitor it and encourage growth.

Why floral, I do believe you've posted my state tree. I've never really cared for the flowers, I find them garish. Do you like them, in person?

Not only did I finally get a fruit off my tree, before whatever animal eats it, or neighbors??? It's so delicious!!! It makes me wish I had 20 trees, or alternate trees like cherries. My first real peach after several years of waiting. I'm so so so happy. It's from a tree, if that counts?

The flowers of the Tulip Tree do not appear garish to me. Firstly they are usually so high up and well camouflaged that people don't even see them. Secondly they are are largely greenish yellow with only a small band of orange. So no, I don't find them garish. I don't think there are any species flowers I 'don't care for'.
