Bad knee(s)? Go down the stairs backwards.

About 15 years ago I was at one of my late husband's college reunions when I first saw someone going down the stairs backwards. That person was the first of several to do it. It was explained to me that going down backwards greatly relieves the pressure on bad knees. As my DH's classmates were all 13 or more years older than I, the information wasn't useful to me at the time, but I remembered it. Now it's very useful.

I find going down backwards not only more comfortable, but safer. We're not pitched forward, as we might be in a normal position. It feels more stable to me. Of course, holding on to both handrails is a must. And as I've done this only at home (so far), I always know the steps behind me are clear.

Anyone else do this?

PS: Yes, I'm the same person who doesn't want you to back out of a parking space. 😁
