This weekend: My husband & I assembled a new gazebo for one of the rentals. 90F @ noon. It had a zillion little acorn capped screws. It was brutal! It has aluminum legs, steel roof, 2 sets of curtains. We poured a concrete base for the posts a week ago. It's 10' x 12'.

Pergola that Kevin and I built (with help from a friend who is a mechanical engineer) in our back yard in L.A. Instead of pouring concrete, we used concrete piers that we bought and buried them. I added redwood slats to the roof to fill in the gaps and give us more shade, and so it functioned more as a gazebo than as a pergola. I ordered the kit from an Amish group in Pennsylvania.

Years ago we put together tinker toy style gazebo. It had mosquitoe netting and shad panals. We didn't need the shade we NEEDED protection from the blood sucking mosquitoes. I think we used them once. Our city started spraying and we could sit on the top patio. 15 years later I gave it away on free cycle and someone came and undid all the screws and hauled it away.

Just an FYI...I wouldn't have needed a gazebo if the prior renters hadn't killed the two HUGE apple trees that shaded the WHOLE yard. 5 rose bushes have gone back to the graft due to stress/no water. I now have 5 Dr Huey rose bushes instead of the pink Tea Roses.

The renter has a spare s x s refrigerator, she plans on putting under the gazebo.....unless I want to buy them a hot tub. 😍
