Need Help with Master Bedroom Bathroom/Bedroom Layout - 1970s house
Comments (5)I like my first idea best as far as use of space. I know people say not to put toilets on an outside wall. We had one in our last house in Iowa, but we had 2X6 construction. I don't know how high your window is, but I'm guessing the toilet would fit under there. The shower would be 5 feet long or shorter if you want a wider space to get to the toilet. (kind of tight the way I have drawn). You could do a 5 and half foot long shower and do an angled door at the left end to allow room between the shower and toilet. The vanity would be about 7 feet long, unless you do a 60 inch vanity with a linen cabinet at the door. I would reverse entry door swing if you do that.. The second top right could work and you would still have a small closet. The bottom left plan would require waterproofing your front window. Hopefully someone will give you other ideas. The bottom right plan is bigger, but no closet. Each square equals 1 foot....See MoreWhat paint color for master bedroom and bathroom with carrara marble?
Comments (13)Warning - this is an old post! @juddgirl2 - i was wondering if you would post post photos of your bathroom/bedroom. I’m trying to finalize things fir my master bathroom/master bathroom renovation and would love to see what colors you chose. I’m planning on using Mapei Warm Gray for my carrara marble - your Custom Platinum looks nice though! Hmmm … . What grout color did you use for your slate floors? My slate tile has been installed - will be grouted soon. I am pretty sure that I know which color grout I’m using - just would love to see whatever you did just in case I like it better! 😆 Also, I’m thinking about purchasing some porcelain blue shams/throw from Pottery Barn to use as an accent color in my bedroom. Quiet Moments is one of my top choices for paint - did you wind up selecting it or Chelsea Gray? Wow - it looks like I’m stalking you!...See MoreHow do you like this open concept bathroom (no bathroom-bedroom wall)
Comments (26)I'll be a contrarian. I would never knowingly rent a room with a shared bathroom in the hall. That would be a complete pass - I don't even like having to use a hallway bathroom in a sleeping situation in which I would share with friends and family because if I need to use it in the night I would have to wake up more/get more decently dressed and I hate having to shlep stuff to take a shower or perform normal grooming stuff in a bathroom. I don't have the horror of viewing a toilet from a bedroom that some houzzers seem to have. It certainly wouldn't bother me on a temporary basis. I have a master bath in my home and I can't remember the last time I actually shut the door. I don't have issues with smells or humidity but perhaps that is because my Toto washlet has a built in deodorizer AND I have an excellent Panasonic fan which runs based on ambient humidity levels. I don't generally even have condensation on shower doors or mirrors after exiting let along huge amounts of humidity wafting through my bedroom. The question really is one of economics. There is a cost to installing the bathroom and OP would need to decide whether they would make up the expense by having increased rent and/or renting it out more frequently. Certainly any prospective renter would see a picture and determine whether they wanted the ensuite with a curtain in the room or use of a bathroom in the hall. Also resale value is a red herring. At such point that OP wanted to sell it would be relatively inexpensive to convert the bathroom into a closet if having the ensuite in that room was a negative....See MorePlease help design my master bedroom and bathroom
Comments (20)Your second bedroom layout is so much better because you'll have windows on 2 walls in the bedroom. However your closet is barely a walk in with it only being 4'6" wide. Very tight. Also clothes can't turn corners. The toilet room doesn't need 8' in length. Again poor design. Your shower doesn't need to be 6'. If you make it 5' and then add 1' to the closet, that would be a better use of space. Actually Marks layout is better except he has a thing against toilet rooms. I'd switch the shower and tub and then enclose the toilet in his version with the wall of the shower being solid. (Glass walls look good but are a huge pain to clean.) As for your whole house plan, there is so much that could be improved. Your kitchen with the dog leg island and the second island is awful. Not bad. AWFUL! As in really poor design and going to be a real PITA to cook in. Also, these plans were custom drawn by an architect, just to put everyone's mind at ease. I gave him the layout though, so you can't blame him for the layout, only for not correcting my ill-conceived ideas. Well it's obvious he wasn't too good in the fact he wasn't willing to let you know why the design was bad. A good architect would have suggested other ways to make the design better and helped you to see why this was not such a good design....See MoreJennz9b
