Secondhand smoke may cause cancer in pets, doctors say
Comments (8)As a longtime Vet Tech, I have to say that, yes, secondhand smoke does effect your pets. Cats more than dogs. With a stethoscope I can hear a difference in the lungs of an older cat who has lived with heavy smokers and a cat that that has never been exposed to secondhand smoke. Also feline asthma is more common in cats that live in smoking households than in non-smoking households. As far as dogs, I am sure it effects them too but not as noticeably. As far as lambasting anybody, I would never do that [I am a smoker and can hear my lungs with the same stethoscope I am listening to my cats with!] but if you do have a pet with a breathing problem it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to tell your Vet you smoke. Pete - You can smoke in the doghouse, just let your pup be somewhere else when you do it!!!! nova...See MoreNewbie who may have gotten ahead of himself
Comments (8)Your original plan sounds perfect to me. Should I add something like SBM as well? You could if you want/ if you have the $$. Should I spray a liquid kelp/fish emulsion combination in as well to help get things going in the soil? Once again you could, but i wouldn't waste the time or money. Heres an in depth look of what your planning. 1. Compost: High humus content, holds water and contains plenty of nutrients. 2. Bone Meal: Used as a long-lasting source of phosphorous as well as low levels of nitrogen, potassium and calcium and some trace minerals. Promotes extensive and healthy root systems in transplants and seedlings. (Typical NPK analysis 3-15-0) Use 50-100lbs per 1000sqft 3.Alfalfa meal or pellets: Primarily they are used to increase organic matter in the soil and do offer nutrients and a high availability of trace minerals. They contain trianconatol, a natural fatty-acid growth stimulant. (Typical NPK analysis 2-1-2) Use up to 50-100lbs per 1000sqft 4. Soybean Meal: High nitrogen (Typical NPK analysis 7-2-1) Use up to 50lbs per 1000sqft. Important! Till in Half the amount of amendments your planning on using with the compost. Then spread the remaining half on top of the soil and water in. You've covered all the bases. I'll have about a week, maybe two between adding these and when I seed in order to capitalize on temps in the 70s (nights in the 50s) Once again, the sooner the better. If you can get all this down 2 weeks prior to seeding you'll be fine. Your seeds probably wont sprout before 1 week. Which will give you 3 weeks. Plus after seeding you will be watering alot, which will further help to break these down and release nutrients. How Much compost are you using? Comments (11)I got both of them this autumn, the seasonal flu shot in September and the H1N1 in October when I worked at a City Flu shot clinic. No problems with either one. I get a flu shot every year. I work every day with very vulnerable people. Having had the flu before, I NEVER want it again, and I certainly don't want to pass the flu on to someone who might die from it. Yes, there are risks, as there are with anything we do, but the risks from a flu shot, or any other immunization are very, very small, considering the millions of people who get immunizations every year. Several years ago I got both the flu shot and the Pneumovax and 4 days later I had shingles. It might have been too much of a jolt to my immune system (but it might have had nothing to do with the immunizations), but with quick medication, I got through it with minimal discomfort. In the future, I'll continue to get both vaccines, just not at the same time. It's the non-immunized who spread disease - whether it's a preventable childhood disease or influenza. Non-immunized children pass measles, rubella, whooping cough, etc, to children frequently too young to have been immunized. These diseases can still kill children. My SIL was not allowed to get his smallpox vaccination before he left home for his deployment in Iraq because of the risk to both kids. I agree with igloochic, if you are not going to get flu shots, stay away from others if you feel sick, don't assume it's not the flu, the risk is too great to other people....See MoreAny idea what may have caused this?
Comments (1)I'd say it was man-made. When animals dig out a hole/tunnel you'll see the excavated debris just near by. They only move it far enough away so that it doesn't fall back in the hole. That looks about Bandicoot size, but can't see enough debris there that could have come from the hole....See MoreArtist-FKA-Novice Zone 7B GA
