Floating shelves

This is the rendering and I'm wondering where they have the floating shelves placed, centered on the wall versus centered along the tile? If its along the tile it will be around 2 feet in length. The one in the photo I'm guessing is around 3 feet. Thoughts? i would probably be using it for cookbooks, small plants, plates possibly?

3' is fine if you have the support on the wall.

Are you opening up the wall to create a support system or are you hanging shelves on the wall with a floating bracket? Without seeing the rest of the wall, or knowing whether or not you'll have bar stools on the side of the peninsula, I'd probably place them over the tile.

What are you doing with the tables you are removing?…can they be cut lengthwise to make two long shelves?..you can use the legs for center support on top of the new desk,..the two sets of drawers could be re-used easily as well..to create a smaller desk area? For other jobs or end or side tables elsewhere?

Jan’s got a point. If you’re dead set on having 2 shelves then why not stagger them. Move the bottom one further away from the dishwasher.

Thanks for suggestions of staggering. And of course the dishwasher clears the handles.
