You are going to want more than 32" for the toilet. 36" is standard (and perhaps even code in some areas???? Not here in Maine but I heard people saying that on other forums...) We have 34" and it feels fine but I dont think I'd want to go much tighter. You could solve that simply by flipping the closet and shower. So, have your shower -rotated 90 degrees and witha glass end wall- at the end of the tub (which is a nice setup you can see in many bathrooms, the tub deck can actually protrude under the shower glass wall and be a ledge or seat in the shower). Then the passageway moves to the left, and you can steal a bit of space from the other closet for the toilet. Either that of have a shorter vanity. 48" isn't a size I'd fight for. It's too short for a double vanity, really (unless you're using one of the new two-faucet 'trough" styles) so why not go down to 42" and have a better toilet area? For resale, though, you should consider a double vanity. Some people I guess expert truly huge ones, like at least 5+' long. But you CAN get smaller ones, Ikea has some great ones for tight spaces. But if you're not selling anytime soon, do what YOU like!! (But I still think you'll want more toilet space...)

Well, I actually moved the bathroom to the other side of the house when I redid the plumbing, so the size and layout changed. Still small, though, since my house is small. I did the Houzz no-no of installing a freestanding tub and shower in a small space. :) I also didn't install wall tile. But, my renovation feedback is get multiple quotes and use contractors who are recommended by people you know. Do enough research to know what should be done, such as for waterproofing or lighting, and the different methods for doing it. You do not need to become an expert. Ask the opinions of the experts, within the parameters you've set. Spend your money on things that matter. Design the bathroom with your needs in mind. I hate cleaning around the toilet base, so I chose a wall mount toilet. Sink is wall mounted, too. I chose tile and colors that went with the rest of the house. My storage solutions are mostly shelves and hooks. We don't have a lot of bathroom stuff, though. If you are stuck on design choices, I would recommend replicating a bathroom you like. Finally, plan for delays (old, small house here!) and overages.

Yes @Sabrina Alfin I was thinking about something like that. My dad has some more of the cherry, and I thought about having him make some shelves for either above the toilet or as triangles in the corner. How deep do you think they should be? Should they go from wall to wall? How many?

Several ideas: Idea 1: A shelf above the bathroom door could provide storage for toilet paper, and baskets can "neaten things up". This would only be visible from inside the bathroom. Idea 2: You say you're against too much clutter above the toilet. How about a train rack for towels? You can get a small, neat one, and the linens could bring some color into a rather empty bathroom. Moving linens to this spot would free up space under the sink for the toilet paper. Idea 3: How about a basket near the toilet to hold toilet paper rolls? It brings in an organic, natural item that softens the all-white bathroom.
