It's official -- the genus Dicentra has been disbanded
Comments (55)Thanks https://www.houzz.co.uk/user/gardengal48 I was trying to find this sort of information on the web when this 'article' (which appears not really as a post but as if Houzz had had it authored) came up. Something like 3rd in my organic search and one of very few which actually addressed the topic. I would think that the Taxonomists removed plants and gave them new new names to imply that they are more closely related to each other than the rest of the Dicentra. What upsets a lot of amateurs and even professional Gardeners and Horticulturists is that the only plant they knew as Dicentra was amongst those removed. I wonder how it would have been if they had removed all but Dicentra spectabilis and re-named those instead? Dicentra formosa is in fact a more garden worthy plant in my opinion because it flowers much longer and does not need support....See MoreCarolyn - Sophie's wet feet?
Comments (1)Cleo, you'd treat your seedlings the same as you would all other tomato seedlings. The comment about Sophie's Choice liking wet feet refers to the plants after they're hardened off and set outside in the ground.( smile) Carolyn...See MoreHad it not been for "experts", what might you have left out?
Comments (7)Thanks for the input. And yes, you found one of the changes since I made the last diagram of my kitchen. After much struggle and even having electrical put in for three different locations for the microwave since I couldn't make up my mind, I finally and definitely have decided to put it in one of the pantry cabinets. Luckily, there is an outlet inside (#4 microwave location) however, I have to check with the electrician to make sure my microwave won't trip the breaker at that spot). My refrigerator was one of the hardest compromises I had to make. The good news is that I have room in the broom closet (if I put brooms somewhere else) to add a secondary fridge (though still quite small at less than 24 inches deep). I particularly like your idea of a second set of silverware for the prep area. I have room for the step stool under/adjacent to the island - I will probably follow your example on that too since that will help me reach into the tall pantry cabinets especially. Thanks again!...See MorePlease help! I’m desperate. Hardwood flooring has been discontinued!
Comments (41)We made the same error as you did with similar results. But, I learned a valuable lesson. Lesson learned? Always finish the job b/c it's very difficult to find and match materials later. Our engineered hw was very similar to yours. We stopped at practically the same place, I convinced myself that carpet in the living/dining room was just fine (and mine was better than yours--no offence). After 2 years, all I could focus on, was getting rid of that old carpet and why didn't we put hw everywhere when we had the chance. In the end, I pursued relentlessly until I found the last of our flooring at a discount flooring store in California. We are in Canada and thankfully it all worked out. Our old installer was able to lift up some of the adjoining floor boards and fully integrate the new material. No one and I mean no one believes it was done 2 years apart, but we were very lucky. The dye lots were a good match and the width of the boards were exact. But I will repeat-----don't do this! Always finish the job, or at the very least, purchase the material and store it until you can finish the job....See MoreDiana Bier Interiors, LLC
