Oh wow you guys are awesome! We moved into this house about 8 years ago, did some stuff to begin with but then I got discouraged and lost interest - now the roof *has* to be replaced so it's forcing me to tackle this, and you all are making me feel so inspired! Thank you! And thanks so much suero for the pic!! That's so cool. I wish I knew how to edit photos like that! Is there an online tool for that? I like that shade of blue for a door but not so much for the shutters, though I suppose if I go blue on shutters and doors it'd need to be the same. I also really liked the blue door holly-kay linked to, but again I don't think it'd work for the shutters. I'm surprised though at how good the dark roof looks! On my screen it looks almost black and not too harsh like I thought. And wow the lights look so much better black! Hmmm... like the idea of dark gray roof and shutters and red door too. Classic. Though if I do a dark gray roof, blue shutters and doors, black accents (lights, street numbers), white guttering and windows, cream siding... isn't that too many colours? Gonna see if I can dig out the roof colour brochure my roofer gave me...

I know what you mean, we do like the color that is on it now, but would like something a little different to look at.....it sure is hard to choose....in the brown family there are so many! We found an aged redwood color we kinda like will have to see what it looks like on an actual shingle to know for sure....I know any brown would work, and being the house is really a neutral color it shouldn't be as hard as I am making it....just don't want to make a BIG mistake!!! I would also spray paint the star a rusty red so it will show more. It really doesn't stand out on the brick in it's current color which looks more copper in the picture. (the copper is pretty but you need red there) I would also consider opening the bed up in front of the stairs to add flowers as well. The house is beautiful, but the landscape is what's lacking. I would actually post a thread in the landscape forum to get some ideas of how you can build the landscape up a little. Put a plan together and just do a little bit every season..

That's a LOT of stone on the front facade. I'd keep it to the garage and post bases, only, then do stucco for everywhere else stone is called for. I think I'd go for a dark green roof, keep the trusses the same color as shown, do a sage/gray color for the shakes, and find stone that will work with those colors. Keep the garage door, the front door, and the front posts the same stain color as the trusses. The shakes and stucco should be the same color. This picture is similar to what I had in mind, but I'd go with a lighter stain color (still too much stone, IMO): Here's another option with a sagier green:
