Help with upgrading lighting and counter tops
We love the wood (and won't change it) in our cherry kitchen - but I want to update the dated chandelier, pendant lights and possibly replace the "bark brown" counters.
What suggestions do you have?

granite counter-top seams ... are we being too picky?
Comments (44)These are my pics of my countertops placed Friday June 22, 2018. I cried looking at these seams. It looks so cheap. Fabricator explains that's the way it comes. I explained that I shouldn't be able to see the seams so clearly. It looks so unprofessional. They ended up taking them back to their warehouse. In hopes they say if it is quality control will try and fix it just to make it look better. Otherwise I will have to pay an additional fee for them to come out again to install. I just don't know what to do and if still looks the same. This is the first time I've replaced my counters in 24 years. I don't and can't live with it. looking at this for another 24 years. It looks so cheap and it really was not it's a lot of money to me. I hope fingers crossed that they will fix this problem. They never told me that there would be such seams. I thought the edges were done by a machine and it would be all one piece. I have read up on this and now understand there are seams. But now I do know that they should not look like this. Comments (6)I would love to see how it turned out. We're doing a very similar renovation. So far our walls are alabaster and we've only purchased lower cabinets. I painted them Mindful Gray (BM). We just purchased our counter tops yesterday and they are unfinished butcher block. So now I'm panicking on what stain to use on them (our floors are Allen + Roth Russet Oak Laminate). Comments (12)Thanks - and I was planning the white perimeter uppers and lowers with a darker quartz counter top ( i like the darker charcoal -matte finish- on top of the white cabinets)and the light gray island cabinet with marbled quartz top. I do love a dark gray cabinet but I have a small kitchen and worried it may be too dark. We are a family of 5 with three messy kids - although they are getting older and less messy lol. Ill have to look at the stained gray - i just dont like to see the grain of wood in cabinets. This island below has the pendants I will do (I'll do 2 smaller Hicks pendants). 2 months agoI did a little mash-up with a kitchen with a similar color scheme as yours, and some artwork to inspire this chandelier choice. I’d leave the countertop you have. It’s very handsome and goes well with this vibe. The total length is 41”. I’m not certain I’ve scaled it correctly to your table.

you really need 4000K LED bulbs (if you don't already) and some under cabinet lighting wouldn't hurt either. right now there is a yellowish cast over everything that doesn't help w/your tone. (the floor looks really yellow)
I'd really change the backsplash. if you don't, you're stuck getting a countertop that jives w/it. besides, it's rather homely and detracts from the wood. You can do way better with any other type of tile.
cherry w/River White granite, soft sage color tile, lots of 4000K light
this would be nice tile if you did a white quartz. It's Newport 2.5X10 in a sage/gray tone, perfect w/your cherry. It also comes in a white and a mushroom color
Similar to above, diff type of stone
white marble-look quartz looks nice w/cherry. for the tile, I'd do a simple enlongated white tile
(I hate the yellow paint w/this kitchen, and the backsplash)
If you do a plainer quartz or soft white countertop, Or even the one above, I love this Nabi Jewel tile. Tilebar. (under IvyHill tile its Delphi)
3x9 ivory glass tile, also an option if you go w/a warmer countertop
For the dining light, lose the yellow and heavy wrought iron
Lastly, consider putting in handles instead of knobs. a soft brass/gold would look great w/the wood

17 days agoMaybe look at replacing the backsplash as well if you're also doing the counters. The backsplash doesn't seem to be light enough for an update. You also might look at updating the hardware in the kitchen, along with adding in under cabinet lighting. Please take a moment to look at the chandeliers and pendant lights we used in our designs.
