Home bar cabinet color and countertop

This site has been very helpful in our basement renovation. I am trying to finish the home bar area and stuck. walls are light green and the floors turned out darker than i thought.

We are planning to add a mini wine cooler between the 2nd and 3rd cabinet. 2nd cabinet will have a small sink. We are hoping to put some floating shelves on the wall for bottles/ glasses.

Initially i was planning to finish the cabinet in similar color. When i look at this I dont think it will flow with the wall and floor.

What color should i pick for cabinet color? How about floating shelves?

We are also trying to keep cost down and debating whether to put lighter granite or wooden block as counter top. What would look better?

Please help!

Similar to the floor color, similar to the wall color? Can you show a pic of the wall color and of what else is on this wall?

I would paint it sage green...will look nice. I would go with the granite counter top as long as it's on the lighter side. If not go with the wooden block.

Maybe your real estate person is trying to tell you to de clutter. And the only way he can get that across is to tell you to hide stuff behind a raised bar. He’s wrong about the raised bar. It won’t hide anything. Declutter. Then do it again. Then clean and clean again. The first thing anyone thinks when they see a scent pot is what pet smell are they trying to hide. Nothing wrong with the counters either. They suit the home. Putting shiny new stone on top of 30 year old cabinets does not increase resale value.

The marble may look a bit more traditional than contemporary. I would suggest a solid white quartz if you want to go white. I do not think it will look bad with white cabinets. OR you can go in the opposite direction and use a darker granite. A leathered black might be cool and have more of the industrial look you are going for.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. We moved this past year and yes, it’s a terrible kitchen layout. Unfortunately I know that my husband will not ever do a total kitchen remodel. We just don’t know how long we will live here to make it worth it. We made the mistake of doing WAY to much to our last house and ended up moving after only 1.5 years. We will be rotating the cooktop so that it is still in the island but instead face the fridge. There’s no way to put it elsewhere without getting all new cabinets, I tried. I see what you are saying with the grey, and maybe I should have said lighter counter as I’m not tied to grey, just something a little brighter. Is there any lighter granite that works well with Ooba Tooba? My main question is still do I only do the island counter or do I do the entire kitchen’s counters to be uniform?

Quartz? What color? Counter top and oak cabinet help?

I have a question for you guys. Is it too outdated to have a cointibayoon do the quartz for the badksplash(only the 4inches) without having to add any other back splash? I worry about making my kitchen Look too busy and having a hard time matching colors , so i was hoping to just install a quartz counter top with that extra 4 inch lip without doing any other backsplash . That is assuming my counter top isn’t too bland . Also, can I get away with a gray? What about the Silestone calacatta gold ? Are the speckled quartz outdated ? Thanks! My floor has to be changed because it’s got a lot of holes and pkaces that are showing the underneath black rubber. it also has stains . My dream is to have white cabinets , a Taupe counter top(warmer gray like), and wood floors . If calacatta gold form Silestone , Bianco drift from Caesarstone , cambria Torquay , or viatera “sol” would work with white or warm cabinets , I’d pick one of those maybe. It’s a small kitchen, and I don’t have a huge budget .. but I do want to make a big enough change beginning with the counter tops that were never sealed properly, flooring, (and our back wall behind the sink that needs to be replaced ) . Similar to what was the paln. I think I need to see what else is going into the space like the TV stand, coffee table this IMO is an area that has to work with the whole space . I garee those floors are dark but once an area rug is added and other furniture a lot of it will be covered . You can paint the bar anytimeso wait . From what I see now the shelves could be the color of the floor but I would prbably do glass shelves .

What does the rest of the room look like? Is there other cabinetry in the room? What is your color scheme? Just things to think about as you try to make a decision.

It might be best to look at using a stain on the cabinets and shelves that wouldn't be as dark as the floors but not as light as the current cabinets are. Below are some kitchen and bar designs of ours that might help. You might do a light countertop so as to not have tons of wood on wood on wood.
