engineered hardwood on top of hardibacker

I have renovated a half-bath bathroom with new subfloor and hardibacker backer board in anticipation of installing tiles. The plan changed, and now I am installing engineered hardwood.

I am loathe to remove the cement board as its thinset+screwed into the subfloor. Please don't suggest to remove it. I'm looking for solutions to afix on top of the cement board.

1. What kind of finishing/brad nails can go through the hardibacker into the subfloor?

2. Bruce suggests troweling one of their glues to affix the wood to cement. Couldn't I use thinset to set the wood floor to the cement backer board just like I affixed the backer board to the subfloor?

3. What would you recommend to set it properly? Do I need to glue the tongue/groove?

It's a small 30 sqft half-bath with toilet and sink so not a lot of traffic. I just don't want the wood to start separating, or coming up.

Thank you

Current state.

A test fit of the wood.
