Will I find a standard double sink 48" vanity?
Comments (10)I have seen numerous ready-made 48" vanities with two sinks. That's a pretty smart idea- putting two 24" vanities together. That might give you more of a selection of styles, but the plumbing might be kind of difficult. The tops would have a seam as well if they were ready-made. You can also build your own from ready-made pieces. If you have 24" depth, you can buy a cabinet base and top it with tile or marble or whatever you like and install two sinks. If you only have 20" depth your options are more limited. What style are you looking for? Perhaps someone will run across one you might like and post it here. If you can go 50 inches, or 52 inches, you can use a 48 inch base cabinet and have a bit of overhang on the top for more counter space. Comments (4)It shouldn't be a big deal, but you would have to first remove the old vanity and then open up the wall and do some re-plumbing. You would cap off one drain and one set of hot and cold pipes in the wall. Then you would need to route the other drain and set of hot and cold pipes laterally within the stud space so they would be in the center; this might require notching out one stud, depending on where things are located. Which set of pipes you would choose to cap off might depend on where things were in the wall in relation to the studs: it's possible that one side might be easier to re-route to the center than the other, or one side might be a shorter run to the drain. It's hard to say before you open the wall, but that's the general idea. Once you re-did the plumbing and repaired the sheet rock, you would be ready to install the new vanity. Oh, and if you don't have shutoff valves under the sinks, use this as an opportunity to install a set on the pair of supply lines you will be using. Hope that helps. Feel free to re-post if any of this is vague, or once the wall is open....See MoreKids/Guest Bathroom - Single or Double sink vanity?
Comments (10)Good point Zookeeper63!. At the moment we all huddle in to the master bathroom while the kids shower together, and we all have a family teeth brushing session so it feels like we need the two sinks - one parent, one kid to a sink. You point out correctly that that will not likely be the case as they grow older, or if we have guests. The vanity we are choosing would either have two big drawers, or four drawers. I assume that this would be enough storage for extra things - hair dryers, toilet rolls, toothpastes, shampoos etc. But, if we go the single sink route, it gives us room to instead also have a tall cabinet which would add even more storage. In fact, with that, we could skip getting the Godmorgon (medicine cabinet style) mirror cabinets and just use the tall cabinet for storage. Good pointers Zookeeper63. Almost feels obvious but, obviously not! :) Thank you....See Morecgeraght
