Bathroom Remodel Double or Single Vanity
Comments (15)Personally I think it's bad for resale, and at least would try for the double faucet, large sink solution, but I had a bit of trouble figuring exactly what your said...so I want to ask if there is a typo? You are currently "noT" trying to separate the shower and tub? Or you are "noW" trying and that's why you haven't the space? I ask this because I went from a master with just a tiny shower (less than 3' each way) to a master with both a shower (not huge, not small...3' x I think 5.5') and a tub, and I got two vanities out of the deal. I did this by using an unusual shaped tub, an Americh Japanese soaking tub. It's very tall, but only 40x40, so it allowed me the extra 34 or so inches I needed to give DH his own sink and cabinets. (Otherwise the poor man wasn't going to have a place to work in) :oP...See MoreBathroom - Converting from double sink vanity to single
Comments (15)My master bath re-do began with a double vanity / sink combo in the bedroom with a toilet and walk in shower in a separate room off to one side and a gigantic roman tub in a separate (but not closed off with a door) area to the other side. The vanity was one of those oak front particle board pieces of garbage with a cultured marble double sink and one of those gigantic mirrors overall. The walk in shower (which began the whole re-do) leaked underneath (inaccessible, of course) and into the kitchen below. So. Now I have a toilet and single wall sink with cart instead of vanity in the room where the toilet and walk in shower was. The roman tub (which was too big to be filled by our standard sized hot water heater) is replaced with a freestanding tub and shower combo (shower curtain all around) with easy-access plumbing (i.e. easy to spot leaks). In the center area that is part of the bedroom is just a freestanding mirror and a hanging plant under the skylight. Very minimal, clean, private. There is a little "ledge" under the free-standing floor mirror covering the plumbing that ran across the floor to the tub. This is reflected also by the ledge in the bathtub/shower area that was always there. It also prevents bashing into the unframed but beveled mirror with the vacuum cleaner. I know this is a lot to picture so I will try to come back with photos later. We are still doing some painting. It always seemed icky to me to have sinks in the bedroom and stupid to have a shower separate from the tub. Capping the lines from the double vanity and converting the shower plumbing to sink plumbing was fairly quick and easy (took a plumber less than an hour). I would suggest you hire a professional for the plumbing and do the rest of the job yourselves if you are wanting to go the diy route....See MoreLooking for layout ideas for Guest/Kids Bathroom
Comments (8)Regarding girls sharing bathrooms, our former home was previously owned by a family with 9 kids, seven girls, and only one bathroom with one sink which had a wrap-around the corner vanity and mirrors on both walls. DH and I went to school with several of them and when we bought their parents' home, they shared with us fun stories of them all lined up squeezing for mirror space and the use of the sink. Stories told with laughter and they are still a close family as we are all middle-aged and older. I guess I'm sharing this because I think the need for all sorts of extra space in the bathroom is silly, imho, and a waste of space. Let your kids grow up with stories of learning to share. :)...See MoreSingle or double sink for bathroom?
Comments (10)Different strokes ;-) I don't use my linen tower for linen (we have a nice closet) in the other bath but I love if for all the items I buy in bulk like Kleenex, bar soap, deodorant, hair styling products, basic first aid, (it's outside the steam area) wipes, girl stuff like perfume I rarely use etc. I also keep my travel toiletries, shower head, hair dryer, etc. in there ready to grab for when I decide to go on one of my spontaneous road trips. It's only 18" wide and 15" deep pulled out to match the vanity depth of 21"....See Moretransnationalq
