Chandelier in only one area

Can you tell me if chandeliers over a dining table will look alright in a townhouse where the space is shared with a kitchen area island and living room - all that has recesses lighting that cannot be changed in the other areas. So will the chandeliers look odd if I keep the recesses lighting over the kitxhen island because its too close to the dining area and will compete and the living room recessed lighting hi hats eont work to change…

Comments (18)As usual, I find Rachelellen's post full of wisdom. It gives me some of the guidance I want. Cooking the same cuisine (not the same dishes) for one week straight would be no hardship at all for me. When I returned from a one week trip to Italy I cooked nothing but northern Italian food for at least three weeks. There was nothing monotonous about it. That experience has faded. I need another trip to Italy for a refresher course. I don't see the need to limit the experiment to a single cookbook, although that could be an effective way to do it, given the right book. Books I would recommend are: Japanese Cooking: A Simple Art by Shizuo Tsuji The Key to Chinese Cooking by Irene Kuo Classic Indian Cooking by Julie Sahni The Cuisines of Mexico by Diana Kennedy These books are similar in approach and format although about different cuisines and by different authors. They provide a solid foundation for cooking each cuisine. Again, I say that switching to another ethnic cuisine for an extended period of time is a fine idea. Comments (35)pupwhipped here...the OP of this thread. Wow, it is ALL really hard to choose isn't it?!? But, ya know, I feel a bit like a fool sometimes to be complaining about being saddled with this burden. Once when I was whining to a friend about how overwhelming it was to me to be remodeling the kitchen in my recently purchased lake home built in 1952, my friend replied, "Kathy, this should be such FUN. I would love and enjoy to the max this project you perceive as torture.....if only I could afford it." That kinda put it all in perspective. She will never get this chance, and here I am complaining about it all and not enjoying the process. But, you guys know it really is such a stress because you don't want to make a bad decision....and all this kitchen sh*t IS soooooooo expensive! Ohhhhhhhhhhh, woe is me. I do pontificate, but I will still say backsplash is going to be the end of me. Thanks for all the responses. I do think it helps to share our angst. I haven't done a tally yet, but maybe I will do that eventually to see which kitchen decision is the most difficult from our GW group perspective. But, as I mentioned before, let's all just be grateful that we are blessed to have these difficult decisions to make. Comments (5)it's tight, for sure, but because it's pretty upright, that particular tub has a good volume of water to get under. I can't find an alcove tub with the same depth (that one is 19 inches to overflow) and sitting area front to back. I also only have 32 inches to work with, so there isn't room for the drop in tub with the deck around it. for better or worse, this might be the direction we're going in. We're going to look at some designs tonight, and the designer mentioned that he had a good example of the size shower we could do if we took the tub out of the master with some creative storage added to the side to make the shower a more reasonable size. I know the freestanding tub would be squished a bit and it would be tight, but I think as far as compromises go it's not bad. We get the big fancy master shower. we'd have to use a tub this size even if we put it in the master, so it's just a matter of where to put it. If we put it in the separate bathroom, we still have a soaking tub spa retreat and I could really lean into a cozy spa feeling. and we don't have to make it do double duty as a shower since we have three and a half other bathrooms....See More

3 months agoThats gorgeous but the lighting above the table is spaced out for two fixtures 2 ft apart when centered over the 7 ft table.
What do you think aboit theae choices? Any other pendant ideas are GREATLY appreciated. thank you. not sure if the last glass Pottery Barn Flynn is to Farmhousey

3 months agoI dislike the glare from exposed bulbs with glass shades. It’s difficult to produce a good mock-up, but I think a pair of these pedants would look lovely.

3 months agoThis lamp is offered only in terra cotta. I think the natural color goes great with the macrame curtains and the boho vibe. I think you can find a similar pendant in the color you prefer.
