Vintage sofa and loveseat -- wwyd?
Comments (25)Tomatofreak -- thanks for that interesting info on the Stratford Company. And you're right, the fabric probably is cotton velvet not velour. It doesn't have any stretch. The tag says "Body - Blended Cotton Felt 80%" (not sure if that is the upholstery fabric, but the rest of the tag is definitely about the insides). madeyna -- Great tip! I don't have Woolite Oxiclean, but I do have Woolite Dark so I'll try that first, it won't foam too much. It sounds like one issue with velvet is maintaining the fabric nap, so I'll have to clean very meticulously and go with the grain, and maybe brush it too! beth0301 -- I appreciate you sharing your story. Since I'm not certain we'll use this set, I don't want to spend any money on it yet. Also I'm not dealing with any major odors other than a sort of musty smell from it being inside a home that was not lived in very often (grandma's main house is in a different state). The main issues are that it looks like some of the fabric has faded, and a few places have spills or something on them. Our pets have loved having the set on the patio, I covered it w/a sheet for protection for now. And as much as I like the style and find them to be more comfortable than the set we have now...DH is convinced I'm blinded by sentimentality and don't see them for as bad as he seems to think they are *sigh* Just last night, he reminded me that we spent about $1500 on our current set -- 9 years ago -- sofa, chair, ottoman (all too big for the space, a big mistake since our house is small) and why would I want to be so wasteful as to get rid of what WE bought TOGETHER with our OWN MONEY, for something OLD and DIRTY. Hence why I want to try to clean them up as best I can without spending any money ;-)...See MoreSectional or Sofa and love seat
Comments (12)Couple things. There is a basic order to select items. Start with most limiting pieces. Sofa and chairs. Then rug. Your coffee table should fit within 18” of sofa and about 2/3 length of sofa. Then add end tables or small drink tables. Lamps and accessories and art. One large fiddle fig plant might work in that front corner. Do you prefer neutrals or want color? Your sofa can be neutral because it is easiest to work with. What style are you going for? Comments (68)Hi Gina, yes, I know. They will be easier to smuggle but still require smuggling. Also, the room already has a desk chair and two "dining" chairs, so I am thinking more of a loveseat or better yet something someone can sleep on in a pinch (not me). And for under $300 --- in fact some options are under $200! Your chair odyssey sounds interesting! Do tell. P.S. I am seeing conflicting info between the guidebook and the online virtual tour about single rooms. One source indicates that singles will be furnished the same as doubles (maybe a good thing for our purposes); the online tour shows the deluxe single room furnished for one. It's hard to say since these are not actually dorms, they are privately owned (and I think this one was a hotel before) but they serve the student population only. We are heading out on vacation in a few days but will do a tour when I get back....See MoreHelp with mismatched Sofa/Loveseats
Comments (27)I agree that the bar cabinet would look nicer centered under that dark shelf niche in the wall, and perhaps consolidate some of your better looking bar accoutrements in those shelves. In keeping with the mancave effect, consider a lamp like below: It's a fun, adjustable lamp and comes in a black/silver combination or this red/brass. You might like to find a tailored leather or metal tray for your bar top to coordinate and to corral items/serve. I chose the brass because your cabinet seems to have brass pulls and it wouldn't hurt to pull a little more color into your black/grey room. You might consider some linen drapes in a textured fabric like linen, in a deep hue, hung high over your window like in this picture, to make your windows look less squatty. The photographed drapes are from pottery barn (color is midnight), but you can probably get them locally through a seamstress/fabric shop in your town. There's a lady near me who does great work. Simple black rod and rings would look masculine and timeless. https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/lighting/table-lamps/piccola-table-lamp-red-pablo-designs/id-f_12949701/...See MoreCelery.
