I need help arranging furniture, please....(lots of pics)
Comments (14)johnatemp, you're right, I don't want to move the tv. That alcove next to the fireplace is really too small for the tv. Besides, there are cables coming from all over the house that get wired to the stereo that is with the tv. I had thought many times that I would like to make the area where the eating area is move of a lounge area. There are really too many doors in that area to make it a very cozy area. I have another area next to the kitchen that I'm doing that instead (and bigger). I have thought about removing the leaf in the table to make it smaller to fit the space better. Most of the time there is only 4 of us eating. Chris, the rug is situated the same way it was in the old location. I have it setting back a bit so that the lamp cord can hide under it and remove the trip hazard. I like the idea of the sofa table under the window. That statue is over 50 lbs, so I need help with that one (and we were in a hurry to go furniture shopping). I got some pretty good ideas while I was out. I'm thinking instead of a sectional, maybe an oversized chair with a couch or love seat? Either way, I'll only have seating for about 4 people (the corner in a sectional is pretty lost). I did find a curved sectional I liked, but it still only seated 4. I'm going to work on the end where the chair and ottoman are along with the table and chairs to see if I can come up with some more room. I'll take some more pictures and post when I'm done to see what you think. Also, any light recommendations for the table where the recliners are? I'd like to have something that doesn't sit on the table, but still worked as task lighting. The guys do play chess there frequently, so I need something that doesn't sit on the table, but will still give hoof task light. You're also right, Chris. I'm trying to get away from the log or cabin feel, and more or a transitional feel and try to accessorize with our horse "stuff". Robbi...See MoreFamily Room Furniture Help
Comments (1)yeah! you did not wait too long! you should not put your tv over you fp! that is very bad for back and neck and with such variation in size more than one will be affected. most do not recommend a sectional, especially with your ages i think it would be so. the sectional rarely seats as many as you believe it should. noone not even brothers and sisters want to snuggle up close all the time. I recommend a couch and appropriate sized chairs as needed. right now, things like large floor pillows and poufs would probably be best....See MoreLiving room furniture
Comments (7)Congrats on your home! Your LR is identical to mine. I found the best furniture and tv placement to be as it's pictured here. Only difference is our tv is on the table instead of on the wall. As nice as a fireplace is, it's not always possible or the best solution to have seating facing it(due to angles and shape of room). It can still be a focal point though using art and/or accessories on mantel. Placing a tv over a fireplace can have it's own set of considerations such as damage from heat, soot, picture quality due to angle degradation, and issues with running power. The furniture in this room is well placed for optimal traffic flow....See MoreSectional vs. Sofas/Loveseats! Please Help!
Comments (1)Based upon my HOURS AND HOURS of reading through posts on Houzz, do not buy a love seat!!! I used to own a love seat - and was getting ready to purchase all new furniture for my family room. When I read through comments from pros explaining why you shouldn’t purchase a love seat, it made perfect sense. It’s rare for two people to choose to sit on a love seat at one time. I really wanted to purchase a sectional- but I realized that it wasn’t the best option for my family room. Your room is a longer rectangle - it seems like you may need to have two separate seating areas in order to make the best use of your space. Maybe a sectional would work where the two couches are located in the model - but I now personally would choose two couches over a sectional. HOWEVER - I’m not a professional by any stretch of the imagination - I’m just trying to use the things I e learned so far on this forum. I’m sure that a professional designer will have much more specific insight for you! Looks like it has the potential to be a very nice room!...See Moreemendez57
