Arranging furniture in a studio apartment
Comments (9)Hi Nikki- What you do with your apartment really depends on your lifestyle and your needs. Do you entertain a lot and have people over for dinner frequently and need a table for 6 or not? Do you work at a desk frequently and need your computer and printer out and really need a desk and a return and a formal work space? If you are a social gal and entertain frequently, keep your dining room as your dining room and get a table and chairs, so you can have friends over at the drop of a hat, even if you are getting take-out. You can have your office in your living room, with bookshelves and a desk (make sure you have drawers that lock. Find a file cabinet that is attractive that locks as well, and a way to house your computer, printer, mode, router, external hard drive, and all your other things that conceal them and can be locked. Your bed can either be a convertible sofa (they are way more comfortable these days, or a Murphy bed as mentioned earlier. or a regular bed that is disguised in a variety of ways, some of which are shown above. If you live in a city, the odds are there are many small apartments and singles living in them. It might be worth it for you to consult with some experienced interior designers in your area about the best use of your space for your purposes. They may come up with some fantastic ideas especially suited for your needs and purposes and know just the people to make the items or where to purchase them....See MoreHelp - Studio Apartment Layout
Comments (15)Here's one idea for the layout. I don't think there's room for bed, living and dining spaces. I would get a coffee table that converts to dining height and store a couple of folding chairs for dinner guests. The shelving unit at the end of the bed could be full height with tv on living room side. Or, it could be a lower dresser or console with tv that could swivel from living room to bed....See MoreStudio apartment layout HELP!!
Comments (11)Here's a floor plan that will work in this space. Don't make your studio a big bedroom. Or a kitchen with a bed! Take advantage of the windows by opening up your space by locating the seating at the window side. Add a luxurious window treatment, ceiling to floor and don't skimp. This plan will allow you to have a full three seat sofa, and a lounge chair. Wrap the bed with tall bookcases, for display and storage with decorative boxes. You may consider a four poster bed to give the bed it's own cubicle, maybe with sheer curtains. On the kitchen side, cover the back of the bookcase with wallpaper, and a wire grid for cooking utensils. (Anything for organization in a studio). The dining table is 60 x 30 oval with a server or hutch facing. Designing small spaces in NYC for many years, the design trick is full size furniture and less pieces, great art, good lighting, and music (of course!) There are great suggestions for dividers on this discussion....See MoreSmall Studio Apartment Layout/ Design Ideas?
Comments (3)Is your desk a heavy duty piece with drawers etc? If not, maybe put it on casters/dollies and make it a multi-use piece (https://www.lowes.com/pd/WEN/5013732287). Could it replace your kitchen island (can't tell if that's built-in)? Then your desk can be a prep surface in the kitchen, swing around to be a small dining table, and fit against the window/wall as a buffet/bar. Mount the TV on the wall or get a sturdy display stand with a smaller footprint (like this https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/fitueyes-corner-tv-stand-for-tvs-up-to-65-ftys1863.html). Then you can tuck a bench or 2 small seats underneath it to pull out for dinners....See MoreLyn Nielson
