First, revere those awesome windows, clad them ONLY in white wispy sheers, and keep that space OPEN! Put a Murphy Bed against the longer wall outside the kitchen; when closed it provides another "wall" where you can put a small comfy wingback, & table to create a reading nook. Next, get a big-ass rug, 10 x 12 minimum, with colors you like and some kind of pattern - this is the focal point of your home. Throw on floor in front of the 3 windows. Then hit the used furniture stores for a dinged up gate-leg dining table\one w/ leaves, plus 2 - 4 reasonably sturdy dining chairs that don't need to match, and place these on that great rug in front of those delectable windows. Finally, to the other side of the windows add another halfway decent chair, small table and a fat Beanbag. HINTS for Life on the Cheap in a Shoebox: Don't buy lamps - they get knocked over and break; buy SCONCSES that you screw into the wall. For that Big-Ass Rug, go synthetic so it can be hosed off; however, large volumes of burning embers may cause a meltdown which can be covered in a pinch by one of the small tables. Should dining table, chairs, etc. wiggle, drop $10-12 on a dual screwdriver & Gorilla Glue to tighten up those pesky wobblers before you can finish your Foster's. Recovering dining chair seats is the original No Brainer: takes an hour, tops, w/ scissors, ruler, stapler, & $20 for 2 yards upholstery fabric (bolt ends) & equals 4 pretty cool seat covers that coordinate with the Big-Ass rug. Dining Room Caveat: a card table plus 4 plastic milk cartons can host quite the epicurean evening! Finally, a year or two hence, bite the bullet & spring for the highest quality sofa you can buy; get it in a charcoal color, clean-lines, traditional style, covered in space shuttle fabric (dirty shoes, dirty feet, dirty burning embers). In 25 years this sofa will go with your son to his first pad - and let's pray that doesn't take place in your basement.

OHHHHH I LOVE your furniture choices. You are styling. Now I also love the un matchie matchie look and my house screams of it. But all my stuff is total yard sale crap I have collected over my long life time. Your Sofa is so Gorgeous. I would not want some one eating on it. My ottoman came from the free building at the dump. I threw a chenille spread over it I dyed to make it right . Kind of a purple fuchsia. Hahaha I have only bought new furniture when we bought the recliners for us which I know so tacky but we liked them and so comfortable. Bought a new mattress or three over the years and a new love seat and Tv. The TV can go away as far as I am concerned. I really like all the light colors you are using and falling into that soft looking cozy bed would be so glam at night. I feel like your bedroom will be screaming for some deco mirrors. But honestly do not listen to me because I am way out there in my decor. My friends were over the other day and she told me the house is turning rather girlie. Course my poor hubby had to put up with that side of me for 31 years. He kind of held me in check some times. Now he is gone I am trying not to go too crazy. Here are lots of photos of my house yard art so you can see where I am coming from and to be sure you do not listen to me. But I sure am enjoying your photos and energy is putting your wonderful small space together. LOVE the hutch too. OH and years ago my neighbor was a wood working kind of guy and he took out the wood panels in my kitchen cabinets and put in glass for me. It was wonderful. I did not need the cabinets for kitchen stuff I used them for my pretty stuff. If you can get glass in them and have some nice things to put on the shelves I would for sure do it. And in my secretary I painted the inside of the top shelves white so my pretty things would show up. Made a huge difference in the look of the piece. I will photo it for you if you like. And those burgundy chairs need white covers on them. I am looking to do that today. I was just give out when I finished painting and got this far the other day. I would suggest a 24-36 inch wide commercial metal shelving unit, floor to ceiling, behind your current ladder location. Adjust one of the shelves to approximately counter height and house your coffee pot, toaster and other small appliances on it. Use the lower shelves to store your heavier kitchen items - canned goods, pots & pans, etc. Use the higher shelves for lighter items - trays, cookie sheets, paper towels etc. I've been using a shelving unit in this capacity for the past year and it works quite well. I bought some metal S hooks to hang my untensils - ladles, spatulas , spoons as well as smaller skillets and frying pans. If you don't like to see all of these items you could easily incorporate bin and box storage.

also, you can look up christopher lowell, he had a design show. one of the things he would do when living in all one room or two is use a book shelf set as a wall, fitting diagonally across room. one side had bed and art work etc. on it, the other had tv and books etc. on the shelves.
