Side-by-Side fridge for 37" wide corner space,
Comments (11)You'd think the mid price 36" refrigerator manufacturers would keep the right or left swing top doors just for this reason. It's only been fairly recently that they purged them, minus Fisher Paykel (DCS) or adjusting down to a 33" fridge. That said, I have an twelve year old 36" SxS Kitchen Aid which has sat next to a half wall/railing. I see what elofgren demonstrates and jwvideo discusses: handle types can make wall issues even worse. My old fridge has the long european handles, which run close to the door. I think our clearance to the right wall is about 1 7/8" and surprisingly with what ever hinge it has and being full depth, we have had few problems over the years with the subject matter. Kitchen Aid refrigerators are 35 1/2" wide. I read on GW that SxS door clearance is less than that required by a french door refrigerator by a 1/2" or so but didn't bookmark the reference. So you may be right in looking at SxS's given your situation. I'm thinking to delay a new refrigerator purchase, in spite of the new remodel. Our cabinets are going in next week, and that's when I'll have input on refrigerator panels (should be at least 1/2"), as well as how snug the cabinets prior to the fridge may go etc. While everyone is telling me to buy, I'm going to buy time instead. Next years 36" refrigerator models may accommodate a wall better-maybe a maker will have pity on us wall huggers! Good luck with your decision. I sympathize with you, as I've traveled and researched this decision ad nauseam....See MoreMinimum length of a laundry closet for side by side W/D
Comments (4)I have a closet with sliding doors .... 88" wide x 35" deep. My new sears washer is 27" wide and our older Whirlpool dryer is 29" wide. We also have a 24" square wash tub. I can tell you these 3 barely fit. In fact the 3ird section of the sliding door panel will NOT clear the washer (in the middle). But it never needs to go past the washer so its no problem. The 35" closet depth is an absolute minimum .... and may not work with many new dryers. I would go for a minimum 37" depth ..... but if 40+ is an option go for it. Even at 37" the run from your dryer exhaust may need to be "squished" to snake to the outlet. At my 35" depth the hoses etc brush against the back wall and thus create more noise Also keep in mind where the water input taps go for the washer .... if they are not completely under the basin, but a little behind the washer, you will need that much more depth. Comments (28)NUM, I hope you're saving the money you don't have to currently spend on rent or mortgage. It should be adding up each month and accruing interest. When I paid off my mortgage, I just diverted the old amount (less insurance and taxes, which I still have to pay) directly into savings. Not only is that money available if needed, but if I had to buy again (hopefully not), I'm already used to not having it. I'm in the middle of a bathroom remodel that didn't require moving anything. I consider myself frugal and yet costs quickly add up. Your options all seem like compromises or stop-gaps. Maybe consider where you hope to be in 2-5 years and plan accordingly. Good luck!...See MoreAdd a bump out for closet and tv?
Comments (10)Annie, I get what you're saying for sure. My issue with the master is that I can only do a 24" bump out max, and really 18" is more likely. One window is onto the front porch (I know, totally ridiculous) and the other is onto to the driveway. I am doing a bump out in the master bath, I'm adding 18" onto the shower with a transom window above the sight line. If I had the money I'd flip the master and guest rooms but it's not in the budget I think. I'm hoping when I meet with the build team there next week I can get some other ideas from them as well. Luckily, I'm not one who spends much time in the bedroom or bathroom, I tend to get up, get dressed and get out, rarely going back into the master until bedtime or maybe to put up laundry. We will be in the mountains so will spend our time outside, hiking, biking, gardening or fishing in my husband's case. This is the whole first floor, showing the 2 new bump outs. The driveway is on right and the river is about 60 feet to the left running parallel to the deck....See Morechispa
