What your plants need for bigger, better tomatoes all season long
Comments (7)Dave, No hard feelings. I wasn't upset at you. I was totally aghast about my spectacular blunder! My California sense of humour doesn't always come across, I reckon. I was tired and botched up the whole post big time, and GW doesn't have the setup where you can edit your posts or even delete them...too bad. But that's why I said, "No Duh!". If you hadn't have written that, I might not have caught it, so thank you. Below is the LINK to the LSU website that I forgot to add in my original post, from which you can access the tomato site. It is an AGRICULTURAL site, so is for farmers mostly or folks who grow 'HOOGE' gardens (and lots of folks down there certainly do too). The fertilizer amounts in pounds surely were for composted manures, but the 8-24-24...dunno??? It does seem a bit much for 350 sq ft., now doesn't it? I will say, however, that those amounts were not meant for boxed-in little potagers or small kitchen gardens (like mine), and that is why I added the part about "or according to package directions per plant". I guess that did not come across either, and I am sorry. Yes, this was specific for Louisiana tomato farming or big gardens but COULD apply to others in the deep South where it is hot and humid and have difficulty with tomatoes setting fruit, as many Tom-types won't set when temps get above 90 degrees. If you are having trouble with that, check with your local Farm Co-ops and Agri-centers. Even most local nurseries will suggest varieties best suited to your local. (The site makes suggestions for Louisiana only). I just forgot to put the freaking link. Again, I apologize. It is not in my normal range of blunders, but guess it is NOW. hehehe I have to say though that it is good to add a side dressing 3-4 times during the growing season, of either compost or composted manure to give your plants a boost. There are packaged tomato foods that are formulated for tomatoes. I have tried the Ortho (once) and it works great. Keeps your plants healthy and producing big toms all summer. * Make sure you give them ample water if you use chemical fertilizers or they will burn up, especially when the temps go way up. Glad some of you went to my Photobucket website to have a look-see. Thanks for the nice comments. I actually forgot I still had that link to it. Sure glad I didn't have anything risque on there! Zooks! (JK) I have to take pain killers every four hours just to function and it does make me a bit goofy. Hope there are no big goof-ups on this post. ~ time to go eat my humble pie, Annie "sweetannie4u" Here is a link that might be useful: Louisiana State Univ. Comments (4)Hi mustangs, Thanks for your input. Good point about not wanting too deep storage for the boxes. After writing, my post I felt we should do the west wall in cupboards, including wrapping around a few feet to the south wall, so we can keep that window mainly in view. These cupboards should do well for the teaching stuff. Some of my teaching supplies are in deeper Rubbermaid containers, which seem to just fit inside 24 inches. Those that are in bankers boxes could potentially be switched over to Rubbermaid containers as the cardboard has seen better days. However, I think a closet would be cheaper and more versatile on the south wall. We may do a bit deeper than 24 for flexibility too. Some of our other storage is deeper than 24 inches. My biggest question with the combo plan, would be what kind of door should we use on the closet. We are leaning towards sliding doors, but I know they only allow half the contents to be seen. Does that sound like a reasonable plan? I am off to HD to see if they can quote me on basic cupboards for the west wall and the wrap around. Clearer pricing will help with my decision as well. Comments (10)Eddie Bauer is well-known for their quality down products, and they have a lightweight down duvet. But may I also suggest considering the down alternative? It is light, comes in a lightweight warmth version, and is a nice alternative if you don't want down or have allergy issues in your house. Eddie Bauer down alternative duvet Quality issues are personal, but keep in mind that the quality duvet is less likely to bunch and shift, and will last a long time because it is in the duvet cover. A worthwhile investment if you think it is something you want to use for years to come....See MoreHow many storage closets do I need in my house?
Comments (14)This is hard one. New home build has.. (small farmhouse) We have a pantry and a tall pantry cabinet too.. pantry has vaccum & brushes. We have a small hallway between rooms that has space for officey stuff, charging, counter for snacks for party.. but mostly printer and laptop support stuff.. upper cabinets. We have a dresser in the small main floor bath instead of closet. We have a shoe closet because we like Japan style. We have a large nice coat closet plus a simple mud room with hooks at another entrance and farm boots. we have a homeschool supply cabinet/a matching one for coat closet we have a linen closet/built in in the hallway upstairs that is actually a basecabinet with wood counter and a upper wall cabinet built in (like office hallway) we have a full linen closet outside of bathroom door on this level too sharing the upstairs vac/broom and cleaning supplies we have a shallow shelf with sliding doors in upstairs bath for small items but not a fan of cloth hanging out in the bathroom.. in hallway. interestingly we don't have closets for the kids yet. We want an easy layout with what we have with windows and doors.. vents.. going modern and growing with them style.. we have are farmers but we have a 4' wide door in BR with another 4' wide open curtain place for me.. I like tall dressers and need more places for folding, jeweler and underwear.. have nice pieces that do best folded.. hate closet systems, want light and pretty space instead. Velvet curtains ;) basment is full! We have a plan for dedicated and double checked (insects and others) but want true dressers indtead of tubs and wall stuff. Want to sew and love basement.. don't want walls covered.. want art and more fancy room stuff in basement. Going for dressers for Christmas, sweaters.. and sometimes buffet peices.. do not want a Rubbermaid look! I want to do something amazing with my basement too.. not sure exactly but more living room, play room, art studio with storage much lower than normal storage rooms. Also having a vac & broom in the have closet....See MoreLyn Nielson
