As with shopping for bathing suits and jeans, you have to make your mind up to start the hunt and follow through.

What do mean by expensive? I’m looking at the Magic Lift front closure posture back wirefree bra for $58 on Bare Necessities when I put your size in.

It's important to understand how bra sizing works. The cup size changes with the band size. As the band gets bigger, the cup gets bigger but the cup label doesn't change. In other words, if you go from a 42C to a 40C, the band AND the cup get smaller. If you want to keep the same cup size and just reduce the band, then you have to go to a 40D.

I would suggest measuring around your chest under the breast -- just the rib cage -- to get a band size...whatever you measure, add 4" (if it's an odd number add 5"). I'd start there. With a 75lb weight loss (congratulations!) If you were a 46G and your band size is now, say 40, a 40G will have a smaller cup size too. So start there. But it will require trial and error as different bras will fit differently and some will require a larger or smaller band/cup size.

To determine if the cups are fitting properly, there should not be any extra space in them, and you shouldn't be spilling out of them. The bridge...the part between the breasts...should be close to your chest on not pushed out away from it. If it is, you need larger cups.

To determine if the band fits, it should feel snug but comfortable. If it's riding up in the back, it's too large. 90% of the support of the bra should come from the band. (The majority of women wear bras with too large a band and too small a cup.)

Kohl's has a great selection of bra manufacturers styles and sizes at reasonable prices. Once you determine what size you are and what model you need, you can look to eg One Hanes Place to get good pricing. I typically pay under $30 for my bras. (And I know a lot rave about Wacoal, but I have never gotten the support I need from them and I've tried several times...I'm happier with Bali and Maidenform.)

I hate to be the downer, but am thinking with the issues you mention, you may have to resign yourself to shopping and a fitting. I know you said not convenient at all but between the support needed and the curvature, I don't know how else you could find the most flattering and comfortable bra available to you. You may not be completely happy with the price either I'm sorry to say but if you purchased a couple, you could begin watching for them on sale and add later.

Nothing is worse than an uncomfortable bra. I have some scoliosis myself and a couple of compressed vertebrae from old (very old) fractures. It's already hard enough to buy attractive well fitting clothing, you don't want to add even more difficulty with your undergarments 😊

Get those 'girls' looking their best, and hopefully you won't have to go again for a while.

And if your weight loss was intentional, then my sincere congratulations to you!

I concur -- you really should have a fitting. A good fitting. Are you within driving distance of a major city where there's apt to be specialty shops?

A good person to help you if you don't have a fitter in town is somebody who does sewing. They can help you measure correctly. Do you have a family friend or someone around to help you measure at least?

I agree with everyone that the fitting is important but if you can't you can't so hopefully sewing is something someone you know and trust does.

PS how did you get sized for 46g?

Thanks for the replys. I have been or was a 46G for many years before my spine got really bad. Just kept buying the same size. The old bras are stretched out so don't fit well. And I have lost weight, so of course they don't fit. Even if I did go to a person for a fitting, I wouldn't know where to look.

Look for a lingerie shop that isn't a "fad" shop for pretty young things with model bodies. They might even be independents, not part of a chain, but call them and ask if they carry sizes above a 40, and ask if they do individualized fittings. Expect to spend a lot of money, but buy 1, and then you can see if you think it's worth the money or not. Personally (obese, >60), I wear Prima Donna bras, and am really happy with their comfort and support.

I know your issues with getting a proper fit. I have been a 36G since my late teens. I am now 82 and these Gs are no longer 'perky'. An underwire was a necessity, but today I just want to be comfortable. Due to a progressive muscle/nerve disease, I no longer have full strength of both arms and would need help in the fitting room where I would shop. Would be happy with a so called leisure bra, but they almost always start at size 40 if you want a G cup. At least that is what I am seeing in catalogs. Stores like Penny's, Kohls, Boscovs, don't carry a G anything.

I actually worked for 10 years as a 'fitter' in a specialty shop that catered to the hard to fit woman and for breast prosthesis after mastectomy. So I do know the value of a good fit and is worth chasing down where ever you need to go.

If you are near a Soma, they have bra fitters. I went to a VF outlet one time and they had a "bra fitter" there, but turned out I knew more about bra sizing than she did. :( Some larger department stores will also have fitters.

oh the misery of wearing a bra i am not that big but had a lumpectomy about six years ago so have one mutilated breast. in addition I’m allergic to latex so my middle back is in a constant state of itch . first thing i do when i get home for the day is take the damn thing off . ive spent hours in Macys lingerie departmnt trying on bras and have ordered many on line. i ve ended up wearing the same two bras over an over

Thank you for answering @caflowerluver. I am pretty sure it would have been obvious to you but I was hoping against hope that it was somebody that had helped you get the 46 g bra size and that you hadn't thought to ask for help again..

I hope I wasn't appearing nosy and I hope I didn't sound rude.

I would certainly phone around and ask every shop that could be a possibility to help you even if it doesn't seem obvious. In small towns there's often somebody who has had experience even if they are not clearly visible.

Is there a possibility of a family member or a handy dart type of bus to take you to a larger Center? You could make an appointment for a fitting and have somebody's proper attention.

The other thing that I would do is simply ask a nurse to help me or a nurse's assistant type of person when at my next doctor's appointment. Especially if you have a good doctor. I wouldn't hesitate to do it at the doctor's office that I'm at now.

I know the best place would be with is with an experienced bra fitter but if you can't find anyone the doctor's office is another possibility. Especially if one has disabilities when seeks help where they need it because stress is bad for the body.

Thanks again everyone. I have done an online search for a bra fitter and the closest is in a city a good distance away. That is a hour and half drive over a mountain and no way would DH agree to that. He will do it for medical appointments, but not anything else. He drove to Stanford Medical Center 10 times this last year. I don't drive anymore.

Can you check to see if there are any seamstresses or alterations shops that could help
