Comments (59)Theoreticaly, you could be right. However, some viruses may induce mutations. Phyllody can be viral or other phytoplasmic infection. Most mutations are degenerative. Not all, but most. Climbing mutations often are degenerative in bloom production compared to their original bush forms. Frequently, they are once flowering and require selection to sort out those which repeat. Cl. Iceberg is an excellent example. When first released, there were several strains of the climbing form, many of which didn't repeat and some which didn't flower much at all. Of course people wanted the more continuous, heavier flowering version and that's what has become the standard in commerce. Update: I found the book on my bookshelf! :-)...See MoreTeasing Georgia, a beautiful healthy rose in my garden
Comments (71)I have two teasing Georgia’s - one on either side of my long driveway. of course I planted them too close and they will probably start to spill over onto it in a couple of weeks. Is Teasing Georgia a good candidate for pegging? The canes seem pliable enough for me to fold them in and away from the driveway but I don’t know if there are any unintended consequences...See MoreHas anyone else started a "cut rose" garden? Comments (64)Librarian, yes it is very dry here. I also thought roses would never ball here but last year I lost a bunch of Mme. Ernest Calvat's spring blooms to balling, and it's not exactly a generous rose as it is so I was pretty bummed. My garden only has overhead watering, I guess MEC must have been super susceptible to it because even with always getting wet from overhead, my roses have never had a balling issue before....See MoreSheila z8a Rogue Valley OR
