Comments (6)Thanks Audrey. Different varieties do so differently in different climates. A friend just 16 miles down the road from me grows certain varieties to perfection that do not thrive here. She is a better gardener than I am, but that's only part of the story. I've noticed that some roses that do well for both of us have slightly different growth patterns for me than for her. Gardening is a fascinating art...and lots of fun....See MoreRequiem for Teasing Georgia (Rose Rosette)
Comments (6)You have my sympathies, rosewylde. I'm in the process of getting rid of my Golden Showers that I've had for a couple decades--yes, RRD. Cut it to the ground yesterday, will dig up the roots tonight--all this in over 100 degree heat, I might add. Very discouraging. I know how you feel. I'm glad you asked about replanting. I thought it was all right, but feel better having confirmation on that. Your design of Teasing Georgia and waterfall sounds so intriguing. I hope you try it again--and give us pictures also. I'd love to see that. Kate...See MoreTeasing Georgia Rose question
Comments (7)Two things come to mind. It could very well be a sucker from the root it was grafted onto. If it is fortuniana then it would be he Cherokee rose, which has white flowers once a year. I'm not sure what the other root systems would throw up. It could also be a sport, which is a new rose on a branch that unexpectedly comes about by mutation--very accidental and rare, but they do happen. Below is Malcom Manner's explanation of a rose sport. If it is a sport it would be very cool because it is new kind of rose. You could get a cutting and have it named after you. Here is a link that might be useful: rose sport...See MoreTeasing Georgia & Strawberry Hill, two perfect roses in my garden
Comments (14)Thank you @Minshen (8b/9a Victoria BC) , @Chris Martins Zone6a Chicago , @dianela7bnorthal , @Sheila z8a Rogue Valley OR , @sbrklyn_7bny . @sbrklyn_7bny There are many roses don't perform well in my garden but I collect unique beautiful roses, so I'm happy to have them in my garden, ex: powdery mildew (Tijana, Osiria...), rust (Abraham Darby, William Morris...) Teasing Georgia has good vase life for an Austin. If you want even longer vase life, you can try Evelyn. @Sheila z8a Rogue Valley OR How is your garden in summer? What's the average temperature there? @dianela7bnorthal I think Strawberry will perform as well as Raspberry Cream Twirl in your garden. @Minshen (8b/9a Victoria BC) Agree, Strawberry Hill fragrance is lovely. We often don't have black spot in California so I'm not sure about Teasing Georgia's black spot resistance. You can check with other gardeners who live in black spot areas.
