OT -- So what are you giving for gifts for Christmas this year?
Comments (4)My kids are now all adults though they are students. Any money they spend is really our money. So we are not encouraging any lavish gifts. Our son has said before, the fact that he will not graduate in debt is the biggest gift he could ask for. Plus, it can be a lot of pressure to find a "perfect" gift: I remember that particular stress from Christmas gifts exchanged in my small office. Our boss would always get us something amazing (not expensive, just "perfect"): it set the bar too high for us peons. I loved everyone there but IÂm glad I donÂt have to deal with that anymore. I accumulate an Amazon wish list over the year: and keep adding to it. Any family member can just check that list and know they are getting me a book or CD I really want. Sometimes I make it even easier on them and order it myself! Since I have maybe 20 items on there I have no idea ahead of time what they might pick: keeps the surprise element. My husband had always been the hardest person to buy for. But he wore out 2 pairs of shoes this fallÂgreat timing! He is starting a new job with a long walk from the commuter rail station: hat and gloves! My digital camera just bit the dustÂgreat timing again (no, I did NOT drop it on purpose). Our son wants an "interview" suit. He needs it anyway, but chose to ask for this for Christmas. He has always worn his DadÂs: but they are not the same size, itÂs time he had his own. So we will make a day of it and all go as a family to choose it together. Our daughter is still at an age where she wants a lot, but doesnÂt trust us to select it. She send an e-mail with specificsÂthings she thought we couldnÂt mess up! Both "kids" will get various fun, inexpensive surprises in their stockings. Colorful notepads, decks of cards, makeup for daughter....See MoreWhat Garden Gift Do You Want For Christmas?
Comments (7)Gazebo for the back yard, and patio built up front. Money is always good. Gift certificates to local and online nurseries. Extra helping hands are always welcome. Seeds - lots and lots of seeds: nasturtium, zinnia, cosmos - easy to grow and reseeding. And plants that are really resilliant to rabbits, voles and chipmunks. And rain - enough to refill our local lakes, so the drought ban would be a thing of the past! Amen....See MoreHow do you determine gifts to buy for christmas?
Comments (22)Doesn't it seem like everytime you cross a name off the list that 2 more are added on? I don't spend extravagant for Xmas and it's always paid by cash (no credit card bill in January... Ya!). DH and I spend about $100 on each other. One year I have my sister&husband and the next year brother&wife (2 x $40). We celebrate at my sister's house and usually get something small for her in-laws (their great people) and brother-in-law (2 x $15). Nieces and nephews (6 x $35). My best friend and husband (2 x $50). Two other friends ($40 & $20) who I started guilt gifting after they gifted me (love the thought but hope to covert them to just gifting an ornament cause we all could stand to limit our spending). Neighbors who always invite us to a great Xmas party each year (deservable $15 plus homemade bread). Couple that is friends with hubby ($20 ... another one that the time has come to stop or convert to just small token). Father passed away this year and not sure what or if to get something for step-mom (we're not really close and if she did get us something it will probably be something she got at a dollar store - not due to lack of money just likes to spend the money on her own kids). You can see that I am lacking enthusiam for a few on my list. I really believe in spending only what I can afford. I really do love finding the perfect present for someone and put lots of time and thought into picking a gift. OTOH ... DH only has to buy for me and his grown daughter. He gets it all done in less than 3 hours! He actually does a pretty good job. Would like for him (just once) though to really put some thought into picking an amazingly special gift (you know not just a great robe but like a Magi gift). Still I count my blessing Xmas morning for having him and our puppies to share my life with....See MoreAn "OMG, What To Do With It" Early Christmas Gift!

Drizzle in evoo while blending. Add seasoning, mix, and refrigerate. Salad Triple Creme Brie - a wheel or large wedge 3 Granny Smith Apples Sourdough Boule (I like Nashoba Valley from Concord) Field Greens Cut double creme into small wedges while cold. Warm to room temp before service. Core and cut apples into thin wedges. Store in ice water until plating. Blot before service. Cut Sourdough into large, thin, crust-less triangles. Lightly toast until barely brown. Brush with evoo and sprinkle with coarse salt while warm. Toss field greens in dressing and plate. Add 2 pieces of cheese. Fan out 3 pieces of apple.
