March Week 3 2023
Comments (58)We made it to 31 this morning. I'm about to head to the hoop house to vent it and remove the coverings because we're at 36 and it's SUNNY. If I wait too long it will be 90 in that hoop house. Funny how those things work. I brought in the tray of kale because it had a few herbs in it. They would have been fine, tho. The cabbages stayed in the hoop. I nearly forgot the calendula. It can take a light frost, I THINK. But didn't want to risk it. It's one of my focus herbs. And I have quite a bit of it. Those extra trays didn't fit on the light shelf, but they're big enough to be okay just sitting next to it. The door to that room has to be kept closed. I have 2 sister cats who love herbs--all herbs. I always say that their ancestors must have belonged to herbalists, wise women or witches. My herb cabinet is such a fascination for them. Even closed, they'll nose at it. Anyway.... I'll take the trays back to the hoop house and only bring the calendula up tonight. Tomorrow, night, the cabbages will come indoors too. How did everyone elses plants do? I hope the lows on Sunday morning don't harm those lovely plant volunteers in the burn pile. Or my red poppies. The seedlings on the light shelf really need to be potted on. (I like saying "potted on" now. There's a girl I follow on Instagram from the Isle of Man and that's what she calls potting up or up-potting.) It's a messy job and I prefer to do it outside or in the shop. Maybe after this cold spell. The tomatillos HAD to be potted on, tho, so I did those last night in the house. Okay. it's time to open the hoop house now....See MoreYour July 2023 highlights
Comments (149)Thanks @GardenHo_MI_Z5! My photo taking skills have definitely improved over the years It helps that my youngest took photography in school and has given me advice. I stand as close as possible (some insects are shyer than others), and then take photos with the zoom feature and then I take a lot of photos. I mean 20-30 even 40 if I think I haven't gotten what I want. And I'll stand there for a long time. Last photos of July! A view of part of the garden that runs along the street, looking from the back. Wool Carder Bee (Anthidium maculosum) The middle right of the yellow and orange bed. The columbine was planted late this year so it didn't flower but the plants are humongous. I was hoping my hibiscus would have opened in time for a July photo but alas, not quite ready....See MoreAugust 2023 Bloomers!
Comments (89)Happy August 31, everybody - here is my veronicastrum as of today (finally dry) . they've held up well without staking in very windy wet weather - thumbs up:) Joe pye weed on the way... I enjoy the stachys officinalis but they really take their time And another veronicastrum, 'fascination' down on it's side My garden is no longer a symphony as I used to think of it, but a cacophany - weeding is not happening much due to inclement weather and laziness and stiff joints . Oh well, I still love it!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 8/20/2023
Comments (21)Things are going well here as far as the exercise goes. I of course can't really lose weight but I'm enjoying going dancing two or three times a week thrown in the mix right now. Going to free summer concerts helps with that. Also we go dancing once a week to alive music pub Friday nights or Saturday nights. The music is pretty good. DH is enjoying tries out different beers one beer each time. Are you ready for fall activities, clothes and food? I'm not ready for Fall. But I am more than ready for Fall. I don't want to stop wearing my summer clothes and going to all the summer dancing that we have been doing. I want the fires to be gone and people to not be too hot who are uncomfortable in the heat. It is weird to feel such Joy in being able to do these summertime activities and feel such sadness for people who are caught in fires and storms and etc. I guess both can exist at the same time but they are uncomfortable together. How are you doing with your healthy lifestyle goals? In as much as I can do my healthy lifestyle style goals are being met. As I said above I can't lose weight. But hopefully I can shift things enough through weight lifting etc to help with my problem areas. I'm looking at you muffin top.. What's going well As I've said before the shortened time span that I eat my meals with IF seems to work very well for me. My weight stays fairly consistent and has ever since I started this program. I don't look at it to help me lose weight as that seems to be a non-starter for me. It does definitely contribute to maintenance. I seem to need to cut out all extra evening snacks to maintain my weight no matter what level of activity I do. What needs more work and focus? I need to weight lift more even if it is body weight lifting and de-stress somehow so that I can lose the excess cortisol in my system and maybe not have a muffin top ;-). Wishing everybody else health and safety. I've been distracted by all these summer activities so haven't said much to individuals. But I think of you all almost every day....See Moreneely
