I think it would. Just end it with a bullnose, or finished edge tile flush with the end of the flat of the countertop (IOW, don't come all the way out to the tip of the bullnosed edge of the countertop) But of course, that's personal opinion, and yours is the one that counts, being you'll be the one living with it afterward! :-)

Yep, I'd say the backsplash is 'connected' to your cabinets, so usually would end with them. I have, though, seen it where people take it over to the trim, then run the tile all the way to the floor between the base cabinet and trim.

I have a similar question five years later: Is the 4" matching back splash now out of style? And how long will it stay out of style? Doubt that it would be possible to get a full matching back splash 14 years after the home was built. I am considering removing the 4" back splash and going with a complementary tile or, perhaps, a colorful wallpaper. Thoughts as to how long the short back spash will stay out of style? (I'm old enough to remember bell bottoms - the first time they were in style.)
