Kitchen help?
Comments (11)Hi. Have you considered moving the pantry and ref to the wall where your range is shown, all the way to the left, next to the the wall? That way, the big, bulky ref and pantry are tucked away in the corner, not in the middle of the kitchen, blocking the view of the people sitting at the counter. Then, you could move the range where you have the ref shown, on the wall next to the penninsula. While you are cooking, you can chat with whomever is sitting at the counter. It would open up the room. Alternately, you could also consider putting the range,(you'd have to get a slide-in type or maybe just a cooktop ), in the penninsula itself. You could raise the snack bar behind it for safety or just to hide the pots and pans! I did just that in my home (I knocked down half of the wall behind my range and added a snack bar. I LOVE cooking looking into the dining room and out the window, and chatting with my family, rather than staring at a wall!) Also, I would seriously consider taller cabinets to gain extra storage and help give the illusion of added height to the ceiling. With standard 30" tall cabinets, the top shelf usually doesn't have any height left above it to store much useful. If you even add 6 extra inches, it becomes much more usable space. Here is another idea you might want to play around with, if you haven't already considered it: Try extending the counter next to your dishwasher down that wall, past the large window (looks like you would have to replace the large window with a shorter one so the sill is above the counter- that shouldn't be too expensive as the header size isn't changing), and then turn the corner for your penninsula from that side.(In other words, flip the side the penninsula is on and create a very large "u" shape). The opposite side (where the ref is shown now) would just be a straignt row of cabinets, and either ref. or range perhaps. The penninsula might have to be shorter with this arrangement, but you would gain lots of cabinet and counter space. So you would have to decide what is most important and what arrangement you like best. I think there are a lot of things you could do. Play around and have fun. Just because something is where it is now, doesn't mean it has to stay there. (FWIW, I used to be an architect before I had kids! I love playing with floor plans. )...See MoreNeed help with wall color in newly renovated kitchen. HELP :-)
Comments (36)I really like the fabric you have chosen for your curtains. Reminds me of a store we once had called Laura Ashley. -Well...I think you should find a gorgeous cream, thick white/eggshell and paint your kitchen walls this colour as it carries into you dining area (there is not visual break). It has to complement this area at the same time. All four walls in kitchen area white, so no accent wall. (Yes, this includes the wall we see that leads into the living room). -Go with that gorgeous darker of the two greens for your upper cabinets and white again for your lower cabinets. The standing cabinet surrounding the fridge can also be the same green, with your island remaining white OR be white, again with your island remaining white. Keep in mind your appliances are black. White ones would be best but another time. **When you paint your island white, keep the knobs black. This ties in with your curtain rod above the glass doors as well as your appliances. -Please, please buy the kit that allows you to get a granite look for countertops and apply to both cabinet and island countertops. -Since you will be in painting mode, I would recommend also painting out the living room the same white until you find a colour for it that allows the eyes to transition naturally from kitchen/dining to living room. It will feel like the Hamptons for a little while. My two cents worth....See MoreKitchen help to transform into more of a Farmhouse kitchen
Comments (6)Consider upgrades.esp if no renovaion in the works? New French door fridge, under cab task lights: these will give some improvement for you. Then wrought iron pulls , traditional style faucet, nice oval rug under table, yellow or green paint instead of red, check or stripe or country French window valance, light fixture above table.?.......perhaps source what door finish you have and glass doors w panes(can really give stylish feel). Question is: do you want an island......there is some space but I don't know the measurements of floor area exactly. Island can be your gift in lending style and more storage and seating. Clarify budget and goals and so forth....See Morekitchen help color coordination help!
Comments (1)The base of the counter should be close to the color of the cabinets with gay vaining. If you can’t find then do a gray top with less white in it. Backsplash I’d go with blue to avoid the cabinets looking yellow...See MoreIluvdark kychns
