Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 7/9/2023
Comments (24)@legomom23 I'm so sorry you've caught covid and have been sick. I hope that it remains mild and that you feel back to normal soon. It sounds like you're being smart and listening to what your body is ready for in terms of activity. @Funkyart I'm glad you've made it through your surgery and dental work. That is a lot. I completely understand that sometimes we only have capacity for managing one or a few challenging health things at a time. It sounds like you're making great progress and ready to work on the next item on the list (thyroid). I will say that as someone also on thyroid medication, it is life-changing for me and I feel immensely better and more able to do physical activity when my levels are correct. I also completely understand and sympathize with the frustration of maintaining / plateauing when you want to progress. From what you've described, it sounds like you've already had amazing progress and really are doing well from an improved health perspective. I am certain that you will continue moving forward in time, it just may be slower because you are so much closer to your goal. @gsciencechick I love that! Sorry I haven't been great about keeping up to date here. While I am mostly over that horrific cold I had, I am still struggling with some residual coughing (not bad, but sometimes at night or after/during exertion of exercise), runny nose, and low energy. This week and last week I have been back fully on track with my morning (summertime) cardio exercise of swimming and running. I am also back on track in terms of doing my 5:2 IF. I had to pause while I was sick because when I tried to do it while sick, it made me way more sick. (Lesson learned.) I am now battling the 2 extra pounds from being sick on top of the few extra pounds I was already fighting. I think I'm down 1lb after 1-2 weeks of getting mostly back on track. I am trying to refocus on IF and even more so on reducing snacking and focusing on healthy meals. I am not, however, back on track in terms of weight lifting. I am unbelievably busy at work. I've recently been talking with an HR consultant and she was shocked that I am doing significant individual contributor software engineering work on top of having 8 direct reports to manage. I love what I do, but some weeks it's just a LOT. Now I'm being added to more senior leadership meetings in addition to my already busy schedule and suddenly I don't even have 20-30min at lunch time to lift weights every day. I've gotten to it once this week, but I need to get back on track....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of Sept 3, 2023
Comments (16)I'm glad you are taking pics and recognizing the great progress Funky. It is so easy to get discouraged, but we need to reflect sometimes and be proud. Lots of changes and consistency have gotten you those results. They didn't just happen. I'm going to take the questions this week:) How are you doing with your healthy lifestyle changes this holiday weekend? Not bad - exercise is seeing me through at this point. What are your goals for the coming week?- no bread, no potato chips. I have been so lax with these foods, which are really a downhill spiral for me. I'm going to go cold turkey on these two. What are you working on improving? - Getting my food choices back in line. Are you pleased with your progress? - I have been at a weight loss plateau since November of last year really. But I am glad to have kept the weight off and stayed active. I have really made activity a big part of my life and I think that has been key to keeping my weight in line for now. What are you especially proud of? Being active every day and trying things physical things outside my comfort zone - yesterday we went kayaking. Not particularly physical, but still, some weight loss and confidence in being in better physical shape has led me to say yes instead of no to things I have really ended up enjoying. Like @gsciencechick - I am trying to take advantage of opportunities. I get stuck in a rut, so I am trying to say yes more often. I haven't regretted it yet. But it is not my normal MO....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 9/10/2023
Comments (18)I felt lousy for over a week, just today feeling pretty much like myself (so far). Tested negative 3x for covid and never had a fever. Just headache, intermittent sort throat, fatigue. This has happened to me for years. I will randomly feel run down, that ”I’m getting sick” feeling without ever getting truly sick with anything diagnosable, usually just for a couple of days. I mentioned it to my PCP a few years ago and some tests were done. All fine. I do tend to run slightly low on B and iron, and when I had long covid a couple of years ago I was borderline low so the dr recommended supplements. I have dropped them since, but I think I'll start again. The iron I have taken is this liquid that tastes like garbage but doesn't bother my stomach. I was getting a little worried about my upcoming trip so figured it couldn’t hurt to add this back into my routine until I leave. Funky, apples are so great right now! I have been having one every day, often with almond butter or as a ”side dish” with my scrambled eggs. I find that they feel more like a treat (and take longer to eat) when I cut them up. Oh, and sometimes sprinkle with cinnamon. My bday is next week and I am already planning a ”good eating week” interrupted briefly by dessert that night when we go out to dinner....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 9/17/2023
Comments (13)Yesterday was my first day out of the house and I made a beeline for our community farmers’ market. Delicious veggies and fresh eggs were in abundance, and I bought a lot from my favorite vendor. In the bag: red new potatoes and the most delicious green and purple okra! Also some very small cute red and yellow biquinho sweet peppers (not visible) that I am planning to use in salads. A beautiful eggplant, freshly hulled limas and black eyed peas, garlic garlic, and two varieties of tomato. I harvested my back porch basil and made this for yesterday’s lunch homemade basil walnut pesto on toast, topped with slices of heirloom tomato, heavenly! I’ve already cooked the peas in chicken broth and have made a beans and rice dish to be eaten throughout the week, and have roasted eggplant slices, the potatoes, and four older tomatoes we already had (with olive oil and balsamic vinegar). The latter I scraped off the pan, mashed thoroughly and now have a delicious savory tomato jam I used on my and DH’s morning eggs today. I am going to make dilled potato salad with the roasted potatoes as I find using them gives the dish so much more flavor than using boiled ones. Between our vacation (DH and I both lost weight) and recent illness I am now at the same weight I was at age 35. Interestingly, I don’t look different but my weight seems to have been completely rearranged or redistributed, if that makes any sense, and my clothes are fitting differently. I bought a belt a few weeks ago in my regular size and I’m buckling it in the smallest hole. 😳 No idea if my body will “settle” at this weight (and no panic if it doesn’t) but I am enjoying having a real waistline again. (Still no hips, but the illusion of them now with a waist!)...See MoreFunkyart
