Comments (57)So glad to hear you are feeling better, Yeonassky! Isn't it amazing how exercise becomes such a part of your daily routine that even when sick you want to get out there! I am not there currently lol.. but I have been in the past and will be again. Best wishes in the new year and with your increments with running and pushups! Prickly what a great feeling to look back at the last year and to see your accomplishments right there in the mirror! What really stands out to me is that you say you feel "strong and fit" ... and that you have significantly reduced your digestive issues. Those are the kinds of changes that impact your quality of life! I am impressed and so happy for you! Well done! And prickly's post reminded me that we all have been here posting and sharing experiences since what? May? It has been so very helpful to have this forum to share experiences, articles, recipes and successes! You all have kept me focused when I want to throw up my hands ... and inspired when I think I just can't eat another cucumber LOL. Thank you all for coming back here week after week! ❤️❤️❤️ So I can't really explain my update this week-- but I am down 4lb since 12/31 --- 3 lb lower than my lowest weight in 2022. I definitely cut back on the indulgences, but I really didn't expect to see any losses-- in fact, I am pretty sure my calories were higher than usual! I can't explain it but I am just really glad to see a loss after 4 months of very slow progress....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 8/20/2023
Comments (21)Things are going well here as far as the exercise goes. I of course can't really lose weight but I'm enjoying going dancing two or three times a week thrown in the mix right now. Going to free summer concerts helps with that. Also we go dancing once a week to alive music pub Friday nights or Saturday nights. The music is pretty good. DH is enjoying tries out different beers one beer each time. Are you ready for fall activities, clothes and food? I'm not ready for Fall. But I am more than ready for Fall. I don't want to stop wearing my summer clothes and going to all the summer dancing that we have been doing. I want the fires to be gone and people to not be too hot who are uncomfortable in the heat. It is weird to feel such Joy in being able to do these summertime activities and feel such sadness for people who are caught in fires and storms and etc. I guess both can exist at the same time but they are uncomfortable together. How are you doing with your healthy lifestyle goals? In as much as I can do my healthy lifestyle style goals are being met. As I said above I can't lose weight. But hopefully I can shift things enough through weight lifting etc to help with my problem areas. I'm looking at you muffin top.. What's going well As I've said before the shortened time span that I eat my meals with IF seems to work very well for me. My weight stays fairly consistent and has ever since I started this program. I don't look at it to help me lose weight as that seems to be a non-starter for me. It does definitely contribute to maintenance. I seem to need to cut out all extra evening snacks to maintain my weight no matter what level of activity I do. What needs more work and focus? I need to weight lift more even if it is body weight lifting and de-stress somehow so that I can lose the excess cortisol in my system and maybe not have a muffin top ;-). Wishing everybody else health and safety. I've been distracted by all these summer activities so haven't said much to individuals. But I think of you all almost every day....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 8/27/2023
Comments (23)Oh yes-- loving the cool mornings! It is 52 this morning ... my walk was short this morning but it was lovely! I am just so glad to be able to get out! I just saw a short video about clothing fit .. they did a comparison of a "good enough" fit vs "proper fit". Her point was that many women can/should go down 1-2 sizes. I have noticed the same recently .. sure, I have gone down sizes as I've lost weight but right before my vacation, I realized I was still wearing a number of clothes too big. Of course, I have lost a lot of weight and I am not going to replace my whole wardrobe so I do have some clothes that are oversized .. but even in the clothes I am replacing, I was sticking too close to my old sizes. My new strategy is to size down an extra size on base pieces and then keep wearing my oversized tees, sweaters and jackets. I went down an additional 2 sizes in tanks and an one size in long sleeve tees and athletic shorts. It has made a huge difference. Fall is great for this strategy -- I now have a few pairs of jeans, a short jean skirt and a long jean skirt that fit fairly well. I can add a belt (i splurged on all new belts a few months ago) a trim top and then layer on whatever I want! It helps that I have broad shoulders as I can carry off an oversized sweater or jacket. I am ready for some fun fall events and outings! I know this is a fairly self-indulgent post lol ... but I do think that looking good and put together as I am losing weight helps keep me motivated and most importantly feeling good about myself. I still have 60-70 lbs to lose so I think this strategy will also help me be wiser about what I DO buy. I admit, I bought some dresses this summer that weren't my best picks. They made me feel great when I bought them but 10lb later, they are too big and not as flattering as they were when they fit perfectly. I shouldn't be buying styles that are so fitted that 10-15 lb take them from sharp to dumpy. One final recent lesson-- I am fairly anti-shapewear. I am anti spanx. I just don't like squeezing myself into shapewear and I don't like how I feel wearing them. I feel like I am trussed and bound and can't move comfortably. Enter Shapermint -- they are SO easy to put on and really do help smooth the bumps and bulges particularly in stomach/muffin top area. They are also pretty affordable compared to some of the other shapewear products. I don't wear them every day -- or even regularly-- but I could! They are comfortable and easy enough to wear that I will throw them on with a pair of jeans if I want to look especially smooth and trim. I know it is not all about appearance -- improving my health is the goal but part of good mental health is feeling good about ourselves. I feel great about my progress but I haven't always felt good about my appearance. These little tweaks have me feeling good about the face I am presenting to the world so I am more inclined to go out and be more social. I smile more and I engage more. So many of us struggle with our appearance ... we focus on what we perceive as our flaws. We look in the mirror and frown (or is that just me? lol). Let's make an effort to be good to ourselves this holiday weekend! I don't have any plans or events this weekend but I am going to make sure that I don't look in the mirror and frown! I will smile at the people i see instead of looking down at the ground or stare off in the distance. I will engage positively with myself!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 9/17/2023
Comments (13)Yesterday was my first day out of the house and I made a beeline for our community farmers’ market. Delicious veggies and fresh eggs were in abundance, and I bought a lot from my favorite vendor. In the bag: red new potatoes and the most delicious green and purple okra! Also some very small cute red and yellow biquinho sweet peppers (not visible) that I am planning to use in salads. A beautiful eggplant, freshly hulled limas and black eyed peas, garlic garlic, and two varieties of tomato. I harvested my back porch basil and made this for yesterday’s lunch homemade basil walnut pesto on toast, topped with slices of heirloom tomato, heavenly! I’ve already cooked the peas in chicken broth and have made a beans and rice dish to be eaten throughout the week, and have roasted eggplant slices, the potatoes, and four older tomatoes we already had (with olive oil and balsamic vinegar). The latter I scraped off the pan, mashed thoroughly and now have a delicious savory tomato jam I used on my and DH’s morning eggs today. I am going to make dilled potato salad with the roasted potatoes as I find using them gives the dish so much more flavor than using boiled ones. Between our vacation (DH and I both lost weight) and recent illness I am now at the same weight I was at age 35. Interestingly, I don’t look different but my weight seems to have been completely rearranged or redistributed, if that makes any sense, and my clothes are fitting differently. I bought a belt a few weeks ago in my regular size and I’m buckling it in the smallest hole. 😳 No idea if my body will “settle” at this weight (and no panic if it doesn’t) but I am enjoying having a real waistline again. (Still no hips, but the illusion of them now with a waist!)...See MoreRelated Professionals
