Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 5/28/2023
Comments (25)As some may have seen on another thread, I traveled to Atlanta this last week so my exercise routine was pretty wrecked for half the week. Over last holiday weekend I spent so many hours doing yard work on top of my usual exercise, so hopefully that made up for it. And one of my days in Atlanta involved a ton of walking through a museum and the aquarium, so that was hopefully beneficial. I am also happy to report that I did not get any gluten sickness on my trip which felt like a big win. But most importantly, the summer only swimming pool is now open for 50m outdoor swimming in the mornings! I'm really hoping they haven't sold out most of the pool to a swim team again like last year. The 50m is more of a workout since you're pushing off from the wall less frequently and I can definitely feel it after each session. I need to get back into my summer routine of cardio in the morning and weights at lunch time since I've been slacking off a bit on the weight lifting. On the weight loss front I think I'm still hovering about where I was in the winter. Maybe down a pound. So maintaining, but I'd like to lose a few more again in the summer to be back where I was at the end of last summer. On a side note, I'm terribly photo phobic and hate having people take photographs of me without my control. Apparently our company photographer snapped a picture of me during our in person company event and the CEO decided that was the photo he would send out to our entire company in his weekly email. Ugh. I am grateful that my immediate reaction wasn't "Oh no, I look fat!" but I still wasn't very happy with how I looked. I wish I could get comfortable with how I look in pictures....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 06/18/2023
Comments (27)Thank you all for the well wishes. She is doing ok for what she has going on. It's eye opening and yet another reminder to age as well as we can. Hospitals and rehabs are not great places to spend a lot of time. She was dr avoidant and anti meds for most of her life, but that just left her with some health issues she just didn't treat - like a way underactive thyroid and high BP. I think those probably played into her current situation. Luckily, the care this time around has been spread between the hospital and my siblings, so we've got a good schedule going. I have been able to exercise and sleep. Part of my new sleep routine is reading a real book before bed, instead of looking at my phone. Right now I am reading this. It's really interesting in that it has actual assessments and plans for improvements. I honestly think I am in decent shape, but the assessments said otherwise:) I feel like I'm agile, but not in these ways I guess. So, lots of mobility issues to work on. I also really like my new 800 gram challenge. I do better with number goals it seems, so instead of just saying eat more fruits and veggies, this is a concrete goal in addition to the 30 different plan products. I relied a lot on nuts and seeds for that, so this is indeed a challenge for me. I have been eating a lot more fruit, which I didn't really eat because of spikes on my CGM. I will have to see how that works when I wear one again, but for now I'm going with it. I do think the fruit reduces other cravings and not great for me foods. I just make sure to eat it with other fiber and fat to hopefully slow down the effect. @gsciencechick -good work on your A1C - sounds like you are headed in a great direction. @jill302 - maintaining is often harder than losing. Good work!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of Sept 3, 2023
Comments (16)I'm glad you are taking pics and recognizing the great progress Funky. It is so easy to get discouraged, but we need to reflect sometimes and be proud. Lots of changes and consistency have gotten you those results. They didn't just happen. I'm going to take the questions this week:) How are you doing with your healthy lifestyle changes this holiday weekend? Not bad - exercise is seeing me through at this point. What are your goals for the coming week?- no bread, no potato chips. I have been so lax with these foods, which are really a downhill spiral for me. I'm going to go cold turkey on these two. What are you working on improving? - Getting my food choices back in line. Are you pleased with your progress? - I have been at a weight loss plateau since November of last year really. But I am glad to have kept the weight off and stayed active. I have really made activity a big part of my life and I think that has been key to keeping my weight in line for now. What are you especially proud of? Being active every day and trying things physical things outside my comfort zone - yesterday we went kayaking. Not particularly physical, but still, some weight loss and confidence in being in better physical shape has led me to say yes instead of no to things I have really ended up enjoying. Like @gsciencechick - I am trying to take advantage of opportunities. I get stuck in a rut, so I am trying to say yes more often. I haven't regretted it yet. But it is not my normal MO....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 12/3/2023
Comments (15)I have been busy unraveling some medical mysteries…so annoying and somewhat stressful. Today I finally saw an ENT for a sore throat I have had for 3+ months. Something about a sore throat, for me, says ”you’re sick” or ”you’re getting sick” so it has really kind of messed with my head and my energy level. Anyway, I was diagnosed with larygopharangeal (sp?) reflux, or ”silent reflux” and start taking meds tonight. I will be so happy if it works! I have no heartburn or any other stomach symptoms, just the sore throat. Meanwhile (I feel so old) I have had a foot issue that the podiatrist thought was bursitis, tried 2 cortisone shots with no result, now doing PT and he thinks it’s actually a trapped nerve. It is just another minor annoyance and doesn’t affect my activity except that it’s hard to get motivated to exercise when you wake up every morning with a sore foot. We will be away again this weekend visiting DS but DH and I have both agreed that next week we need to re-start our healthy eating routine and maybe even start ”dry January” a couple weeks early (making exceptions for a few holiday gatherings). We keep trying to establish a routine of walking 1/2 hr after dinner every night but it is reallly hard to start that up when it’s cold and dark! We should have started in the summer so it would truly be a routine by now....See MoreFunkyart
