Need Help - Wall paint to tone down Orange/Red Floors
Comments (6)Look at SW Evening Shadow (SW 7662) it is a nice light grey. The problem is if you are looking at a sample in a room that still has that some of that yellow/orange paint on the walls it will reflect the color and make the grey look different that what it will look like when the entire room is painted. Your floors will look better when all that yellow and orange are gone....See MoreClassic Gray vs Shoji White - how to tone down warm kitchen cabinets
Comments (70)cdisimone - I have very similar color cabinets and granite in my kitchen except my backsplash is lighter and floors are very dark porcelain, wood look tile. I've been looking for a color that will work throughout the majority of my house too. After weeks of deliberating, I started with my dining room and painted Shoji White last night. Not sure I like it....it does not look warm or creamy in my house at all. It looks like a very light cool gray. :-( I was going more for a warm white so I can brighten things up but still have the warm, cozy feel. I'm going to give it a few days before continuing on through the rest of my house. My suggestion is to paint an entire wall or much larger sample on your wall before deciding!...See MoreDining room furniture - ideas and hints?
Comments (21)The set is solid wood from Kincaid circa 2000. It is in good shape except for some damage from a teething puppy at the base of one of the pedestals. It was part of their PGA collection. The ball under each claw is a golf ball and the chair backs are the same pattern stitched on top of traditional golf shoes. I have loved and used the set for many years. An unexpected divorce has motivated me to unspouse my house and have some design fun. You all have really helped with your brilliant ideas - thank you so much. I posted more pics and am reframing my perspective —- I can take out a leaf to make the table smaller. I still have 8 chairs and nowhere to put any of them —- maybe I can rearrange. I’d like to keep the art because it breaks up the wall and is a nice scale. Maybe add more? Maybe move to the other wall? I made the square acrylic pour paintings. The dining room is just inside the front door and the second story has 4 small square windows so the canvases tie into the outside elevation. A friend mentioned slipcovers and I couldn’t visualize it - thanks for posting. It might be the lowest risk option. The idea of painting it is daunting and if I mess it up then I am worse off. I hope that someday my girls and I will be able to entertain again. We use the space for crafting and spreading out for academics and for casual dinners too. It is wonderful to easily seat 8 in one room. I think the chair covers may really solve a lot of my concerns. I am not as enthusiastic about an area rug. Trying to keep it simple but not a definite no. Thank you all! Please feel free to add more or tell me if I am off track....See MoreBig, dark furniture is weighing down my living room
Comments (57)Thanks, all. As much as I would love to sell both (and the sofa is actually returnable for a while yet), it would cause issues. I have hated it and, consequently the room, since it arrived a couple months ago. Not only is it huge, bulky and dark, it has an awkward curve that does not reflect the room. My compromise will be to sell the ET, but first I will take it down to just the center bottom piece, which is 5’w, and see if it works in it’s current shade. I’m concerned about painting it- the finish is shiny, almost lacquer-like, and I think I could mess it up if I paint it. It isn’t bad looking, but just overwhelming with the sofa....See Moremytwo cents
